Page 1 of Processor Upgrade ?

I bought my PC from Mesh about 3 years ago. It`s a Duron 850 with 256 MB of RAM and it`s OK.
But I would like to upgrade to an Athlon processor. Can I do this with the same motherboard (ASUS A7V-E) and how much is this likely to cost ?
Also, where is a good place to get the gear from ?

you need to check up on the motherboard to see what size chip it can take, and if there are any firmware updates, you are best visiting the manufacturer`s website for spec`s etc

plus the chances of there being any athlons of the non xp variety being available is fairly low (note that my abit kt7a-raid could only handle an xp if it was a later version as theres a hardware difference)

From what I can see that board only takes upto a 1.4GHz Athlon (Thunderbird), or a 1.3GHz Duron. You`d be better off buying a new board and one of the less expensive Athlon XP chips to be honest.

speaking of which, the going price for- msi mobo (ddr not sure which tho) 5 pci + 1 agp o/b sound + network + modem + usb 2 (x4)
athlon xp1800 + fan was 85quid tho, this was weeks ago and you should get a 2000xp by now for the same money, this was at the bowlers computer fair it`s not the fastest procesor or mobo by any means but it`ll massivly improve on your current speed`s :D
