Page 1 of Drive wont read cd`s !

Hi, Sometimes (but not always) my DVD drive will not read cd`s.
It always reads DVD`s ok but I have this intermittent problem that every now and again it will not read cd`s be they program`s, audio cd`s or image cd`s.
Its frustrating problem as it doesn`t occur all the time.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Yes I have the same problem with a Memorex DVD-Rom drive.

When the drive goes from playing a DVD to a CD the drive has to re-focus the lazer to read CD`s ( something like that? ) It seems that this switching can get stuck so it will only play one format or another.

It could just be a dirty lense so using a cleaner CD may clear it? If not you will need to buy a new one. With drives from £25 its not to much. May be worth getting a DVD writer which can be bought from as low as £60!
