Page 1 of where to get a cheap PC
PCs & Mobiles Forum
I desperately need to get a new pc before mine completely breaks down.
My current pc is too old to upgrade as everything - case, psu, memory, motherboard, cpu would all need replacing. So I only need a base unit, i`ve already got a good monitor, and a CDRW that i can put in the new one.
Can anyone suggest where i can get a reasonably cheap base unit from, it does not have to be super-fast because anything would be a lot faster than what i`ve already got.
I have been checking Dell`s outlet site bute the cheapest with VAT comes to £400 which is a bit more than I want to pay.
Thank you

darreno,
If you are ok with using ebay there are loads of base units to be found.
But PLEASE look very carefully at the specs, and check feedback, also be sure to check if the price shown includes VAT.
If not happy with ebay I`m sure if you do a search for cheap pc base units you will
find plenty out there.
Otherwise have you thought about building your own pc?
Great fun

Maplin have a great `inerds` deal right now.

As a long-time Ebay buyer and seller, I wouldn`t recommend buying a base unit on Ebay unless you really know what you`re doing. There are plenty of true bargains, but there`s also a lot of gear that`s just plain dodgy. At least if you buy from a shop or e-tailer, you have more comeback if something isn`t as it should be.

RE: where to get a cheap PC
There`s really no such thing as a cheap computer - it`s a keen market where everyone has a pretty good handle on what`s what. Ebay is the wrong way to go, unless it`s through a company. Buy a lemon and you are going to pay a fortune to find out what`s wrong.

I`ve used them before, they`re not bad. And you are able to upgrade any of the options if you find them lacking.
No monitor, but you may not want one if you are upgrading.
