no picture on windows media player
how do i get a picture on media player from a dvd? i only get the sound i get both with power dvd

Click Start, then Run and type dvdupgrd /detect
Then click OK and post your results here.

typed in what you said but came up windows cannot find it
did you copy and paste it? There`s a space in there..

Yes there is a space in there but you can try this:-
In Windows Media Player, go to Tools menu then option. You will see a list of tabs. If the DVD tab is not there then your media player doiesn`t have a compatible decoder installed.
1. As you have PowerDVD it should have the correct decoders so it maybe worth uninstalling PowerDVD and reinstalling it again.
2. If it still fails, try reducing video hardware acceleration by going to Tools, Options and then in Performance tab, under Video Acceleration, move the slider towards None. If this allows pictures then there is a problem with the display adapter.
3. Also try reducing your display settings and number of colours and see what you get.
Hopefully, number 1 above will sort it out as that is the most likely cause. If all 3 doesn`t work then I`m afraid I don`t know what it could be.

You have the correct decoder. Try the steps above (ie. change resolution or check if DVD tab appears under Tools, Options)
