WHICH GRAPHICS CARD?

ewandt (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Tuesday, 26th July 2005, 05:42

i`m about to purchase an ELITE KN1 EXTREME motherboard. i just wondered which reasonably priced graphics card to install. presumably it will be pci express compatible? preferably avaiable at pcworld as i have credit note.
thanks in advance for your help.

Decent motherboard. The graphics will be PCI X16 but which one you choose depends on what you want it to do. I use a GeForce 6200 which has 128 MB onboard memory but accesses the system RAM via the extra bandwidth available to PCI Express if necessary. The card is rubbish for games (as I don`t play games) but cheap at around £45.

What do you consider as resonably priced?? You can get a GEForce 6600GT which wil last you in good stead for a while for around the £120 mark I think, going over to ATI should get you more for your money though I the X series is there PCI-E range not fully sure though I think X700 is around the £80 mark, £150 for the X800 range and top whack for the new X850 lot. If thats all still too much the X300 are around the £30-£40 range cheap and cheerful will run windows and all applications no problems.

Hope this helps
