Page 1 of Cordless telephone interference from wireless router...

i`ve just bought the Netgear DG834G wireless ADSL router to use with my mac, and now i get a loud humming on the cordless phone, i`ve tried the router on every channel you can select, same with the phone, and the noise won`t go. i`ve also plugged a normal corded phone into the line to check it`s the cordless one that`s causing the problem. there`s no humming or static or anything with the corded one. so i need help, are there any settings that i can change on my router? or can anyone recommend a cordless telephone that operates on a different frequency that`s relatively cheap?

How close is the phone base to the router ?
I had the same problem but cured it by moving the phone base further away from the router , they`re now around 1 metre apart and there is no interference.

It might be being caused by something else. My Base unit is more or less sat on top of my router and its fine. Transmitting on the same frequency, ive got wireless joypads and a digital sender too. Of all of them, only the digisender causes any grief with the phone.

Like I said, most wireless devices in the home transmit on the same frequency, 3.4ghz, so there might be summat else (or a neighbour, as in our case, causing interference).

The cause is the router conflicting with the phone and they both operate in the 2.4GHz bandwidth which is the only legal frequency that is permitteded in the home for radio transmission. The best thing to try is to set the frequency of both items to opposite ends of the bandwidth spectrum so maybe set the router to the high end and the phone to the low end (if it can be set) or vice versa. There is a drawback to doing this and that is by setting the channels to the extreme ends of the permitted broadcasting frequencies can lead to unreliable wireless networking and/or unclear phone signals.

If setting the channels to the very extreme ends do not work or if you have an old phone that does not allow its channels to be changed then unfortunately it is time to ditch one or the other or replace the phone with a newer model (it can be as little as £20 for a basic DECT phone).

Thanks for the replies guys, i`ve plugged the router in upstairs with the base of the phone downstairs and i still get interference. i can`t change the channel on the phone so it looks like a replacement phone is the answer. does anyone know a phone that definitely won`t suffer from interference? the one that i was using wasn`t that old but it was a cheap basic one
