Is my 2nd hard drive knackered???

A_Lad_Called_Nobby (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Sunday, 23rd April 2006, 20:00

Hey guys
I wonder if anyone out there could answer a quick question. I`ve just been given a 40gb IBM deskstar hard drive, to be used as a second drive on my pc. I installed it last night (correct jump settings et all,as the primary slave) and copied some data across onto it. This morning i have to boot my pc, only to be met with an "Invalid Boot Disk" error message. Upon start up the primary master is not found! I removed the newly installed hard drive and the pc boots up fine. I have now just put the drive into a caddy, and when it is powered up, the drive makes a noise like a "slipping record". Is my drive knackered???

Thanks in advance for any help

These drives are often refered to as IBM Deathstars as they have a tendancy to die in just this manner. See if you can download the diagnostics utility off thier website and run some checks, but it doesnt sound good to me.
