Page 1 of HELP!!! SP2 problem

HI can anyone please help,
I have long suffered the non working of media player and now use kodec instead, but I think the reason is that sp2 is not installed. I decided to put sp2 back on but it won`t load, I get a message "the requested section was not present in the activation context" This was from the disc, so i thought i`d download it from msoft but when it runs it check it says it is unable to do so!! stumped!!! I always had it on my pc before but took it off for some reason, something is obviously amiss, i even done a re-install over my xp and run scandisc, but it still doesn`t work.
