Telewest/Virgin Wireless Router questions...
Telewest/Virgin have quoted me £40 to supply a wireless router for my PC and I won`t even own it!! I spoke with a cable engineer who was working in my road the other day and he said just go and buy my own Telewest-compatible wireless router, plug into my existing Webstar modem via ethernet, and away I go...
So...any recommendations? As I`m not wireless at the moment I`ll also need some sort of dongle/card for my PC so would a bundle be better value?
Also, once I`ve got the usb wireless thingy or card in my PC will I be able to have a wireless keyboard and mouse?
Thanks

RE: Telewest/Virgin Wireless Router questions...
Yeah you want to get yourself a bundle with the wireless dongle supplied.
Just to make you aware that if you do buy from PC World etc then Virgin Media Tech support will not help you if the connection does not work, your basically on your own.

Ring and ask them for a free one.
If you do buy your own don`t get a USB dongle get a matching PCI card and Wireless router. You want a 54mb Netgear, Linksys or D-Link.
As for a wireless keyboard and mouse...yes you can have both, they work off USB.
Cheers

Thanks guys, noted.

I did - they said I would have to pay as I`m not on the 8Mb tariff, just the 2Mb... I`m not going to argue as I`ve just got a really good discount off of them for the next 12 months, might as well just buy my own as I`d have to buy my own card anyway.

Not quite. If you have connection problems, you just disconnect from the router and connect to the modem and then they will advise/send a tech out. This is because it`s obviously not their responsibility to provide support for the company that manufactured the router. They have to be sure it`s their fault not the router`s. They don`t say "Oh you have a router so we`re not helping ever again!".

Thanks - anything between them all further than that, and do you get what you pay for because I`m pretty skint?
