hello , can any one help me, i have downloaded a couple of films and converted from avi to mpeg, put them on a dvd and tried to play them on my dvd player technika 105 but it wont recognise the disc i have tried several players now and i cant get one that will play them.. can anyone help me ..is there another format of converting so that i can watch it on a dvd player .. thanks for your help :(

try using nero. converts and burns in one.never had a problem

thanks for the help.. if i use nero. do i just put the avi film on then it will convert it to mpeg and it will play on any dvd player ?

What type of format do you want them in if its to fit on a cd then i would say convert to vcd if its dvd format you want then you need to convert them into vob files, i use winavi which you can put all of your files in the batch conversion and it will turn them into vob files then i burn them to disk using nero

I have used a freeware program called VSO DivxToDVD in the past to convert the avis to dvd files. Playback can be a bit jerky depending on the dvd player that I`m using though. There is more info on this program at the link below. There is also a new payware version now available, but the freeware version can still be downloaded too.

By far the easiest solution for me is to burn several avi files onto a dvd and then play them back on an avi compatable player (sometimes confusingly labelled as mpeg4, divX, or Xvid compatable!). Basic players can now be quite inexpensive. I use Nero 6 to do this. Note that if using this program to burn several avis to a dvd, you have to select the DATA dvd project program, and not the dvd video files program.

Pretty much. it`s got a very friendly user interface. Depending on the makeup of the movie file it can take a couple of hours to convert and burn.

As for playing on any player, they don`t have a problem on my old sammy 709 and that`s a really fussy bugger

yup,

convertXtodvd/ really is the biz when it comes to AVI to DVD conversion. It is a chargeable product, but if you look around..

The reason they are labelled thusly is that they are all different TYPES of Avi codec for playback, and would therefore be either mis-labelled or more confusing if they didn`t state their compatibility..
I have a Skyworth player that happily handles DIVx files but not Mpeg4 or Xvid, I have an iSymphony hifi that handles Mpeg4, Divx *and* Xvid.

Have to admit, if I wanna do a conversion I use Divx2DVD last free version too, but on some of the newer codecs (H264 for example) Convertx2DVD it is.

still using nero here, & still not having any problems with it, usually i`m putting 4 or 5 eps of a tv progy on (all xvids) going via nero smart start/ create dvd movie option, then click "add video file" then click burn.

takes about 1hr 20mins from start to dvd complient finish :D

but as said above, having the correct codecs is essential, but as long as you can watch it without issue on the pc, then as you obviously then must have the correct codec, nero should find it & do the conversion.
