Is Microsoft putting viruses on my PC?

andysun73 (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Sunday, 25th May 2008, 11:01

Hi

Is Microsoft trying to make me buy anti virus program by putting viruses on my PC?
For me do uninstall the xpantivirus program, it said I would need a special uninstaller to do this, so I clicked the link and proceeded to save the file. My AVG picked up a Trojan horse.

Also how do i stop that annoying window opening telling me i need antivirus updates and another XP anti virus window saying I have 106 threats, when i know havn`t its bulls***, they want me to buy there software.

Regards

Well yes and no...

It is doing fake virus alerts, but just because something has XP in the name doesn`t mean it`s from Microsoft. "XP Anti-Virus" is not a Microsoft product, it`s a scam.

You already have AVG so just keep that updated and you won`t need anything else.

:B A friend of mine who`s comp i look after had exactly that, rang me up all jubilant saying he`d managed to remove a virus all by himself and how clever he was, he got a trojan that would show on boot up and at various times saying "your computer is infected with etc etc, please click here for the removal tool" where upon he had to pay £30.00 for the "tool" to removes said virus.... he seemed quite chuffed til i explained why would any virus infecting your machine give you the remedy to remove it...... :D needless to say he`d been well and truly shafted..
