Need to choose a new phone

Juls (Elite) posted this on Wednesday, 15th October 2008, 07:45

Im usually a Sony Ericcson gal (have had nothing else for the last 4 years) but just want to make sure there is nothing better out there.

Use my phone mainly for music (apart from the obvious calls and texting!) Would like a decent camera as well so what would you knowledgable lot suggest?

tbh, you won`t go far wrong with the sony erricson stuff, very solid & reliable, & the walkman phones imo are ace, tho i would still recomend the iphone over & above, but they are still expensive :(

The C902 is a great SE phone will treat you well. Otherwise the nokia N96 is coming out soon and thats meant to be good.

:B Apart from being dissapointed at not being able to get the Omnia in time, im pretty pleased with the Nokia N96 i got instead, solid build, dual slider with a massive 16gb internal memory as standard with a slot for extra memory if thats not enough for you, cant comment too much about the music side, but what i have on it sounds very nice thru my bose earphones and has nice player controls.

Nice big screen as well and came loaded with a few tv episodes to watch as well - picture quality was exceptional. Dont think i`ll be sending this one back like the last two lol :D

I was also a committed S.E fan and had the c902 for a while, but just cudnt get on with the tiny buttons (i have quite big hands and the smaller the phones get the faster they hit the wall!)

You might find the nokia a bit on the large side if your used to S.E`s but it is a feature rich phone and works like it should at the basic level (Making calls and texting) best advice is to pop into a phone shop and hold a few :B

All the above assumes your on contract and up for renewal and the phone falls into your tariff band i guess

From looking about in the past few days for myself it seems you can get pretty much all the top of the range phones for free at the moment on the £35 tariffs which in general seem to be offering 600mins and unlimited texts (or at 1,000 odd texts which is pretty unlimited anyway).

Think the two current "big guns" are the Nokia N96 and the Samsung Omnia, with the Sony Ericsson C905 being the first 8MP camera phone I think (not sure if it`s out or out imminently though).

The SE should be out at the end of October.

Don`t know if you`ve already made your decision, but if it`s of any use there`s a good review of the C902 here (that mentions the camera is among the best they`ve used in its class):
