Page 1 of divx from a normal dvd
PCs & Mobiles Forum
Merry christmas all,
Because I travel about alot,
Is there a easy way to convert normal DVDs to divx, without needing `a patch`, please?
I`ve used DVDshrink to unlock the arbitary DVD.
I have windows vista
thanks
Jemma
Rip it with DVD Shrink (untick "split into 1gb chunks" in the options so you just get 1 big file), then use AutoGK. It`s free, and easy to use, but can take a long while.
www.soundalikes.com ~*~ glitterkat.stumbleupon.com
Alternatively, try FU Wizard. It`ll rip and convert the dvd to divx. (Again, could take a long time depending on the capability of your PC)
Thanks for your help,
No wish to be rude here, but autogk appeared to need `a patch` as we call it here.
Fairuse wizard on one try seams alright
have a good christmas

Morning all,
I`m looking to do this so I can put films etc on my mobile phone.
I followed some instructions from elsewhere but seem to have no result as yet.
A mate of mine suggests that the way I`ve extracted the DVD`s to the computer to then convert has not removed the encryption on the dvd, Is this a possible?
If so any programmes that will get me round this so I can then convert a non encrpyted file to divx or mp4 for use on the phone??
Cheers

A Tribute - to remind us all of the good doc whilst his posting capacity is reduced. . . . . . . . . .
Fowler - assuming you`re running this on a Windows based PC....
Download and install "DVD43" (www.dvd43.com/)
That takes care of the encryption on the DVDs.
As for converting the movie into another format, I`m a big fan of Handbrake (handbrake.fr/)
See the thread on DVD ripping for lots of detail (forums.reviewer.co.uk/forums/thread.asp?Forum=113&Thread=766377)....but I`ve used it to rip approx. 500 DVDs now to a hard drive for use on my PS3.
I think the converting to DivX is ok as the phone came with a disk that has that converter on it - it just won`t go from the disk direct
Will give the dvd43 a go and report back
Cheers Miles

Change of plan went for using Handbrake instead.
How big a file would I be expecting to get with this??
EDIT :
OK, well handbrake says it finished encoding etc. No file in the destination specified - great!!!
Start again it is lol
