Windows Vista SP2 - M$ debloatware?

Jitendar Canth (Reviewer) posted this on Wednesday, 27th May 2009, 18:00

Just installed SP2 and found an extra 4 GB on my HD.

Which was nice.

Isn`t that likely to be the 3 things

1) temp files it has extracted to install
2) backups of important files
3) a rollback point?

your windows directory probablay has loads more directories beginning $ containing backups of files that have been replaced

doing a disk cleanup in explorer should give you back that space, assuming you`re happy with it?

Did a clean up just to be sure, and it found me an extra 79 MB, which doesn`t really compare. I had a quick google, and quite a few people are reporting hard drive space being freed up compared to SP1.

I`ll give it a week and see if it fills up again before jumping somersaults.

I`ve just done a fresh Vista including sp1 install on my desktop PC, installing Vista SP2 on it now, I`ll let you know how it effects disk space.
