damn n` blast :(
the drive has given up the ghost in our lappy. it`s one of those much maligned
tsstcorp drives of which the t`internet is full of horror stories.
obviously i don`t want to buy a new lappy, so are those slimline drives on ebuyer
easy to fit? anyone changed one?

The laptops I`ve had in the past have all been Dell ones (actually, had a Toshiba one first) where the DVD drives could be easily removed (swapped for hard drives/batteries etc.) and were actually intended to be swapped easily.
The ones you`ve posted to look to be internal ones, so not really sure how easy it is to replace those. Good luck though!

RE: crap laptop dvd/rw drive
cheers Miles.
unfortunately, the laptop doesn`t allow for easy access to the dvd drive. it looks like
i`ll have to take the whole back panel off. the only easy access panels are for memory,
battery and hdd.

RE: crap laptop dvd/rw drive
cheers bc. i did think about one of those. i`ll have to check to
see if the lappy can boot from a USB device should the hdd
fail.
Ste.
