Transferring mobile number, same provider.
I`ve ordered a monthly contract mobile for the wife.
So the new phone is in my name, my bank account the funds will come out of.
It`s an O2 phone/contract.
The wife is currently on O2 PAYG, and it`s crucial we can keep her existing number.
If we can`t, the new phone will have to go back (distance selling act will cover me).
Can anyone forsee any problems? :/
RE: Transferring mobile number, same provider.
Bowf, I did exactly this with Orange in one of their shops about 5 months ago. I was pay as you go with them. I walked out with a new contract SIM and had the same number as soon as I got home.
I`m not sure about doing it over t`internet or phone but they made a call from the shop whilst I was there and it was all sorted.
Hope this helps.
RE: Transferring mobile number, same provider.
Thanks for that.
Reading more into it, I think it`s a case of requesting a PAC from O2 PAYG.
Then giving this PAC code to the O2 monthly people.
Let`s hope it works, I want to keep the free PS3 that`s coming with it.....
I buy something for her, there`s something in it for me.... ;)
:D
RE: Transferring mobile number, same provider.
I know if you want to transfer PAYG number to another network it`s a nightmare, but think it`s a bit different when staying with the same network.
O2 customer services are usually pretty decent, so you could try ringing them from either phone and talk to them.
Numbers: 202 from the contract phone and call is free, you can call from a landline too but it`s chargeable.
4445 from the PAYG one charged at 25p for the duration of the call.

I did see something recently when I was looking at mobiles (And I think with o2) that you had to request to keep your number at the point of order or it could not be done.
Don`t know why, as you`d still a different number for a few days before it changed.
It didn`t used to be like that, you could just switch numbers but it might be more restrictive now. It could be that it`s only when you purchase through a 3rd party, but guessing that seen as you get a PS3 you will be ordering through a 3rd party.

Ont he PS3 point Bowf, Asda 80Gb fat model, £200.
Tesco slim 120Gb with 2 blu ray and 3 games I think it was, £250 (might have been the 80gig fatty there too though)
Tesco 120 gb slim with no extras, £225 launch offer.
Might be worth working it out against your contract costs for the new phone :)
(and if they say you CANT take the number, return the new mobile then reorder and do it at that point ;) )

Thanks for all the advice.
It was ordered through phones4u.
Jimbo, I did my sums and I reckon I`m probably quids in.
Buying her a new PAYG phone would have been minimum £100 for a smart one.
She`s currently topping up £10-£20 per month.
So, over a two year period, we`re looking at a total minimum cost of £340 up to a maximum of £580.00.
The 2 year contract is costing me £600 (£25 x 24 months - 600 minutes / 3000 texts per month).
So worst case scenario, the PS3 is costing me £260
Best case scenario, it`s costing me £20.00
(You may note I haven`t accounted for call/text costs. But at 600 minutes + 3000 texts per month I can practically guarantee she won`t have any additional costs over the rental)
RE: Transferring mobile number, same provider.
£10 to £20 on an O2 PAYG?
:o
You not got all the bolt on active?
300 texts for a tenner topup?
1000 minutes to any nominated O2 numbers (5 of) for a fiver a month?
Or instead of the 1000 mins, unlimited O2 to O2 for £15 topup?
Or the 150/300 any number off peak minutes for £15/£30 topup respectively?
All of which (apart from the fiver) also leave the top up amount intact on the phone for use too :)
I have an O2 contract and an O2 PAYG, PAYG is on the £15 for 150 mins with 300 texts and the £5er for 1000 O2 number calls per month.
Contract is up next month, hoping to get them to transfer my discount to it and get an iPhone... but as I think they have a couple of months exclusivity (issat a word?) left I might get told to go multiply ;)
Dunno if I would be better going through a 3rd party, I also do my upgrades on the phone direct with O2.

Yep you get a lot for your buck on O2 payg jimbo.
RE: Transferring mobile number, same provider.
Well that turned out to be a piece of proverbial. :D
Called O2 customer services from her PAYG phone.
They `migrated` her existing number onto her new phone/sim.
Up and working within the hour.
Apparently, using the word `migrate` helped.
If I`d used the word `port`, it apparently opens up a world of hurt. :/
