I was reading up about the hybrid drives, as I think I`m going to get one myself.
Basically the OS has no real knowledge of the fact it is hybrid, it appears as one single drive.
The drive itself uses the SSD portion as a fast cache, so whenever it sees data on the physical drive which is causing the heads to move too much and/or take too long to read, it caches it to the SSD.
What this means is often the first few times you use things, it`s no faster than a normal HDD but in a short space of time it quickly learns what is causing slowdowns and moves those bits to SSD, transparently.
