The last couple of weeks I've been dealing with a sudden slowdown on my laptop, all of a sudden Youtube videos were glitching and other apps were starting to stutter. I was even having issues with an online puzzle game that I play.
Just happened to try Task Manager last night, and saw my CPU running at 100% or thereabouts. Closed all windows and it dropped down to idle at 75%. Went on a panicked google about it, trying to see what strange process was hogging my system, whether I'd been infected with a virus, and saw that high system interrupts CPU percentages were a sign of device driver conflicts.
Long story short, I've had two sets of wireless keyboard drivers on my laptop for a couple of years now without problem (2 wireless keyboards and mice to choose from), and one of them updated two weeks ago. Uninstalled them, and my CPU's back down to idling at 1 or 2 %, and my laptop fan has forgiven me.
I know it's satisfying sussing these things out, but I was for a while steeling myself to go looking for a new machine.

That's always a pain, I used to have the same issue with Wacom drivers. Every now and again they would just start consuming all my CPU and memory and if I didn't notice it in time and kill the driver it would slow down too much for me to kill the driver and by by work!
