Ordering through CD-Wow`s HK site - Any problems?

Chris Gould (Elite) posted this on Monday, 16th June 2003, 21:46

I`m thinking of getting the two-disc Supberbit (whatever that terms thinks it stands for) release of Punch Drunk Love, and noticed that it`s only £12.70 odd instead of "14.99 if I get it through the HK site. Has anyone tried this successfully?

When paying, you used to be able to change the currency you paid with to sterling at the last stage, but I'm told they put a stop to that. Correct me if I'm wrong.
If this is the case, most cards charge you for paying in a different currency.
I think the only card that doesn't make a charge for doing so is the nationwide (again correct me if I'm wrong)
If you use the one pound off link posted on the Bargain Buckets forum that brings the UK site price to £13.99, so what you have to ask yourself is, is it worth risking your card hitting you with a transaction charge for paying in Honk Kong Dollars for a saving of only £1.29?

Hmmm, I used to buy a fair few discs from Oz and I don`t remember getting hit with any charges (I`m with HSBC). I guess it`s swings and roundabouts.

the charge for transactions not in sterling will probably be on the basis of a less favourable exchange rate.
www.cd-wow.com.hk is the link

Yeah, used to be that you could go thro the ordering on www.cd-wow.com.hk and then right at the end when it bounces you off to worldpay you had the choice of what currency to pay in, so you could choose UK Pounds! I found that a dvd listed on the .com site would be a couple of quid cheaper that way, as they must use a different exchange rate. However they seem to have noticed that, and stopped it recently
