not necessarily! although the ozzies use PAL there dvd region (4) is NOT the same as ours. therefore on a normal R2 machine, R4 dvds wont work. however there are a few discs which are for use on both regions. im not sure what all of them are, but i do know that The Terminator is one of them.

I know that many Warner titles in the UK have Region 4 as well as 2 included, though it doesn`t mention it on the box, so they are probably the same as the ones sold down under.
I reckon they do this to save mastering costs.

With a Pal disc you always get pal, with an NTSC disc you can choose between NTSC which only gives B&W on my tele or PAL60 which is a bit of a hack but will allow you to watch NTSC frame rate films in PAL colour though some TVs might have trouble with this.
Some DVD players also have a setting where you can output proper PAL from an NTSC disc but they do this by skipping 1 in 6 frames so it might look a bit jerky.

My dvd player outputs pal and ntsc, its completely multiregion.
Basically i have cruddy old tv (am poor student who can`t quite afford new one, and dvd player was so i could start buying dvds and not have to replace the vhs later) that is only pal (its circa 10 yrs old) and i want to buy stuff from australia - it being cheap and all that.

As long as your player IS multi region then you can play Aussie discs no problem. The PAL they use is the same as ours, Infact some discs are sold region2 and region4 enabled ie will play on a region4 only or region2 only player, hence the PAL format must be the same. I buy discs from EZYDVD and would recommend them to any one, you forget they are the other side of the world ! If you still are not convinced, just buy 1 disc from them and try it, thats what I did.
As I say your player MUST be multi region, the PAL will work on y`telly no probs.
