Buying from outside the UK....
As I under it if I buy from the the US or Austarlia I have to pay an import tax. Is this correct and if it is how much?
I am thinking of ordering from www.coolvcd.com.
Cheers

RE: Buying from outside the UK....
it all depends on the etailer.
some are intercepted and opened regulary others are not.......as of coolvcd, I cant help, never used em....
but as long as the price is not over 18 quid customs cant charge you anything you can claim back.
if it is marked as a gift you are allowes 36 quid before duty etc..
They where supposed to be doing an article on this at this site.
I have bought 5 dvd`s up to now from abroad two from play247 (Jersey)#
and three from chaosmusic.com (Australia) and have not had any intercepted.
I only buy one at a time though.

RE: Buying from outside the UK....
Importation of DVDs -
Order singly, maximum value £18 and HMC&E will not charge you. They may still have a nosey in the parcel in case there`s anything interesting, but unless you are importing something _really nasty_ they can`t touch you for it.
Anything over £18 (Box sets, etc) will be charged as follows. 3.5% of the value of the package in import duty, then VAT @ 17.5% on the value plus the import duty. The sums will be based on the stated value plus post and packing.
If the package comes via Royal Mail, they`ll charge a handling fee of a couple of quid, but if you`ve more money than sense and gone for the international UPS package service some etailers use, they`ll hit you with £10 admin fees on top of the Customs bill. Mind you, if you`re happy to part with $30 for two-day shipping, you won`t be bothered ;o)
