opinion changes???

Fowler9 (Elite) posted this on Sunday, 2nd July 2006, 18:41

Out of interest how many people have actually changed there opinion of Owen Hargreaves seeing as he spent the last couple of games looking like the best player (or at worst one of) on the pitch for us?

Although I was uncertain of his inclusion I did, and have continually, being making a case in his defence. My personal opinion is that he has shown why he is first choice at Bayern Munich and why he was put in the squad.
He got his chance, in his right position and for more than 5 minutes at a time and he took the opportunity with both hands (probably letting go only briefly to stick 2 fingers up at the many critics) and had a very good tournament - barring the final result of the quarter finals

At the end of the day the team was filled with good players and the coach got sod all out of them. The best performance I saw was when they were down to 10 men and I think that speaks volumes, how you manage to look more attacking with 10 men in that heat than you do for the previous 4 games against lesser opposition god only knows - I bet SGE wish he knew too

I am glad that the Swede has gone, my opinion of him is not great and never has been. Despite being a tad gutted that, yet again, England have blown a stunning opportunity to win something with some of the best players we`ve had in years there is part of me that is relived that SGE doesnt get to walk away with "World Cup Winner" scribed onto his CV because, in my opinion, he really would not have deserved to have had that accolade forever etched into his history.

My last fear now is that it will be a France Vs Germany final and I will have to cheer for the germans :-(

Good post Fowler.

Hargreaves is very under rated, you don`t play with Bayern Munich unless you are a decent player.

The buck stops with Sven, his tactics are poor, some of his (if they were actually his) picks for the squad were astonishing and his team selections and formations were bizarre. He based them on accomodating Beckham, he didn`t have the balls to drop him. I don`t think Gerrard and Lampard can play in the same team either.

I don`t see much change when McLaren takes over, as I said in another post, swap Sven for Big Phil and England would have won comfortably yesterday and possibly went on to win the competiton. They will look back and think what a chance that was.

I dont see a great deal of change under McLaren with regard to extracting performances or making big decisions, I hope i`m very very wrong.

Shame we let Hiddink go the Russians in my opinion

Absolutely spot on,Sven eventully played him in the right position and he proved to us fans why he was in the team.

Hargeaves

gave a performance that was much like Beckhams against Greece.

The laddie gets shecht from so many "Experts" and I am extremely glad he has shoved that criticism and sniping back down their throats.

Well done Owen mate, just a pity the rest of the team did not show your commitment mate.

He has proved me wrong and I gladly dug into my humble pie after his midfield performances.
