England Team - Business as Normal

After a couple of games of "Dominating poor teams" as soon as a team puts up a decent performance, it`s 1-0 and "At least we got the three points".

Same old, Same old.

Rooney up front would have changed that I suspect.

Joe Cole coming back in for Downing will also give us a boost.

The problem seems to be the old cliched `strength in depth`. I am incredibly biased, but I think England have a stunning first 11.. but should any of those drop out, their replacements seem to be pretty ordinary.

Possible exception being Lennon.

It`s a shame that SWPhillips has never really performed in an England shirt.

The match was awful wasn`t it. Downing looked a bit lost and I think P. Neville is a liability. Is he really the second best right back currently available to England?

If he`s given 90 minutes he might just perform

Moving to Chelsea hasn`t helped, but hey at least his bank balance is good...

I didnt see the game so I can`t comment on the performance, but as general points

1) Macedonia have actually had some very good results over the past few years
(if you ignore losing to andorra)
2) Going away to these sorts of teams is always difficult, put 11 behind the ball, the pitches can be awful etc etc
3) You cant be at your best every game - its winning when you are off the boil that counts

SWP - for a right winger I`ve never seen him cross a ball - give me Stevie G or Lennon (or even Jermain Pennant if he continues his early showings at Pool) any day of the week

I just thought I would bump this thread ...

Same old, Same old.

At least we had Beckham who could (and often did) pull a rabbit out of the hat.

I`m no Fan of Crouch, but he was the best (English) player on the pitch.

And Carrick. Rearrange these words "Pile of s***e". Actually don`t rearrange them.

Good to see Lampard has carried on his stirling form from the World Cup, I`ll tell ya, he could walk into any two bit international team, infact he has.

I actually dozed off during the 1st half I was so bored! Wish i had slept through the 2nd too :(

Actually maybe not cos our subs looked good, reckon they should be starters. Shame gerrard will miss next one, think I will to.

Thought the substitution to make should have been Downing for Defoe and go 4 - 3 - 3.

I hope this doesnt start a load of "we need Beckham back" bulls**t. He hasnt warranted a place for years really, McLaren has said he is "looking to the future" he should not take a step back

SWP as a starter - no thanks. (1) as i said earlier in the times i`ve seen him he hasnt crossed a ball which I would suggest as a winger is quite amazing (2) I actually thing he is one of the most wasteful ball players i;ve seen, its head down and run a lot of the time hjardly gonna create much that way (3) he cant possibly be match fit, he`s started what 10 games for chelski in 2 years??

sadly with Gerrard missing for wednesday McLaren may have to use him. Hopefully SWP will show something he hanst shown me before

Finally lets get off McLaren`s back. Its his 3rd or 4th game, Macedonia arent actually any mugs (did you see how they knocked the ball about). 2 games ago he was rthe dawning of a new era one resulty and its shoot him time - as usual in this country

Give him 10 even 20 ganmes, if he cant get it right by then well go for the jugular and get him out
