Hutton turns down Spurs

Quote:
Alan Hutton has decided to pledge his future to Rangers after snubbing a move to Tottenham.

Tottenham had a bid in the region of £8million accepted by Rangers for the full-back on Thursday, as Juande Ramos hoped to make the Scottish international his first signing at the club.

Hutton, who signed a new five-year deal at Ibrox in July, has attracted the interest of a host of clubs after impressing for club and country over the last year.

Spurs had hoped to steal a march on their rivals by lodging a bid for the 23-year-old and getting permission to hold talks with the player over a possible move to White Hart Lane.

However, after deliberating over the move, Hutton has decided to stay at Ibrox.

Gers boss Walter Smith admitted Hutton`s decision to stay was a massive boost to the club.

"We received a bid from Tottenham which was reluctantly accepted, but the player himself wants to remain at Rangers," said Smith.

"From a footballing perspective that is good news.

"He has been doing so well for us that we didn`t want to lose him.

Best players

"We still have someone who has been one of our best players.

"It`s pleasantly surprising in many ways. There are two things in football - the financial situation Scottish clubs find themselves in, and the footballing side.

"From a footballing perspective we don`t want to lose Alan Hutton.

"The financial situation is something we need to take into consideration but we are just delighted the player is happy to stay at the moment."

We (Spurs) should be thankful he turned us down.
Seriously, he`s massively over-rated.
Can sometimes offer a threat going forward, but very poor defensively.
Besides, I can`t see how Spurs need him.
He`s a right sided player.
We`re hardly short on the RH side.
It`s left sided players we desperately need. :/

As someone else says, he`ll end up at Man U.
Fergie sees him as a replacement for Gary Neville.
It wouldn`t be the first time Fergie jumps into buying a young Scottish player after they have a handful of average displays.
Liam Miller, anyone? :/

I was thinking it was a random first signing, especially considering it`s probably a sizeable portion of January transfer budget and you`ve got Chimponda (who`s been alright I believe?).

Is it just the fact that there have been rumours of some of the big clubs being interested and Spurs diving straight in for the player paying over the odds, ala Darren Bent?

That`s my opinion of Daniel Alves aswell from what I`ve seen, he`s always been very poor defensively always at fault for goals, although I`ve only seen around 5 games of him.

Edit- Just realised obviously Ramos was Alves`s manager the past few years so maybe he doesn`t look for defensive qualities in full backs. :D

We`re allegedly getting £7million for Gardiner, to Birmingham.

Chimbonda`s as good a right back as you`ll get.
He`s been asked to play out of position lately though.
He links well with Lennon down the right too.

Their current policy is to buy young players, with a view to making money on them in the future (assuming we can`t keep them, that is)
Bent aside, Spurs can hardly be accused of "diving straight in and paying over the odds"
Can you give me other examples, because I can`t think of any?
Bale was a downpayment of £5million, rising to a possible £10million, but he`s been a psotive revelation, so I would call him a bargain.

Outrageous money for Gardener.

Kind of what I was getting at. There appears to a policy of buying young players and obviously that can include getting in there before the big guns start throwing the money about.

I never accused Spurs of paying over the odds for anyone except Bent and going for Hutton and paying over the odds (your words, I haven`t seen him play and therefore I am unable to make a judgement).

I actually put that`s been awesome at times, but then deleted it as I haven`t seen enough of Spurs this season and with all the goals shipped, thought people`s opinions may have lowered on him.

Yup, although he`s a decent enough player.
Just not good enough to oust King and Dawson on a regular basis.

To be fair to Chimbonda, he`s been asked to play all over the place this season, due to other squad injuries. He`s been at left back, centre half, even midfield.
In his correct position, he is pretty awesome.

Im a Celtic fan and as much as it hurts me to say it Hutton has been far from Average!!! and also seems to have his head on his shoulders unlike Miller who after a great season or season and a half started to believe his own press and left at least 2 seasons too early.

You think so?
I don`t.
In fact, he had an absolute stinker against Lyon the other week.

Hutton is a nasty phuqen scheitte bag.
A reasonable attacking full back but a scheitty nasty ersehole like his wonderfully eloquent skipper Barry "The Crab" Ferguson..
I rated Hutton up to a few games back and then started watching him a bit more closely in several games.
Against Falkirk he put one of the most disgraceful and filthy challenges to go unpunished I have ever seen. He almost crippled Pedro Moutinho in front of the stand at Brockville (Phuq this "Falkirk Stadium Pesh" :D ) All in front of the officials who spent more time bollockin` Yogi whilst ignoring this nasty ignorant little scheitte kicker.
Fast forward to the Aberdeen game and hey presto Billy Big Boots does the same.
By phuq was I glad when Clarke exacted revenge on this lucky scheitte bag,. Unsavoury tackles by both but I almost pished myself when Hutton got a bit of what he dishes out.
Hutton , like so many, can dish it out but cannot take it so when he gets clattered I phuqen love it.
