Leicester Tigers new ground.
I know there are a couple of egg chasers here. What do you think to the plans for the new ground?

Looks nice.
What stage is it at?
And what capacity will it have?
I`ve had a pdf of some artistic impressions of what the new thomond will be like for those interested.
Here`s a crappy screenshot of one of them.
It`ll hold over 25,000.

The council passed the plans the other day so it has not started yet. It will take capacity to 30`000 seats.
From the web site.
Leicester Tigers have received planning consent for the £60million redevelopment of their Welford Road home.
The club`s proposals for the transformation of their Welford Road home into a modern, eye-catching 30,000 capacity stadium received the backing of Leicester City Council`s planning authority this week.
Club chairman Peter Tom said: "This is a tremendously exciting time for everyone associated with this famous rugby club.
"A huge amount of work has gone into the project so far and we feel the architects at AFL have produced an exciting and innovative design for the stadium.
"We have worked closely with the planning authorities and we are delighted to receive their approval for a facility of which the city can be proud."
Tigers, the defending Guinness Premiership and EDF Energy Cup champions, are the best-supported rugby club in the country and the full redevelopment would make Welford Road the biggest dedicated club rugby stadium in the UK.
Tom added: "We have the necessary funding in place to embark on the first phase of the redevelopment, which is the new stand on the Granby Halls side of the stadium, and we are talking to the prospective contractors. We hope to start that work at the end of this season."
The first phase of the development would include space for 10,500 supporters in a new North Stand (Granby Halls side), taking capacity up from the present 17,500 to 23,500.

Yes. That is the view as if taken from the hospital. The road running from left to right in front of the ground is Welford road.

The Tigers have an average attendance of 17,000 this season, so a ground expansion was needed but to build something like that is an extraordinary project. I just hope they keep the `rugby` feel of Welford Road and it doesn`t just become a generic stadium without any feeling or atmosphere. Although I support the Tigers I have yet to see them play as at Welford Road as my uncle says the disabled facilities are rubbish and the viewing area is in a terrible position. It would be great if this was remedied in the new stadium.

I have been a few times and it is a top atmosphere, even at the development (reserves) games where a few thousand go. I must admit I have no idea where the disabled area is in the ground. They have been on about redeveloping for years but the council always stood in the way.

Just reading up about it. A few articles mention that every league and cup game for the past four years has been sold out at Welford road. That is impressive.
I kinda worry about the new Thomond. The Magners league is not attended nearly so well as the Heineken cup. Hopefully it won`t look terribly empty if only 10,000 show up for a given match.
