Guinness Premiership - what a final weekend! [Spoiler]

Wow! There were so many permutations and possible results surrounding who would make up the top 4 and in which order that positions were changing every few minutes. As a Tigers fan it was an emotional rollercoaster with the team going from 6th to 5th to 7th and then finishing 4th thanks to Varndell`s 77th minute try.

The two semis look to be terrific games:
Gloucester vs. Leicester
Wasps vs. Bath

It should be a fantastic day of rugby next Sunday. A great end to the best season of Premiership rugby since the play-offs were introduced.

Missed this match but sounds like it was exciting.

Pretty harsh on Harlequins. At least they still have a chance to qualify for Europe though. Really highlights the madness of the Heineken cup qualifying rules though. The decision to give the extra space left by the Italians not entering should have been given to either the French or English league.

Now Newport Gwent Dragons have that spot, despite languishing third from bottom of the Magners league (with 34 points from 18 games). Craziness really.

Moreover since Ireland have 3 automatic places, then Ulster (second from bottom with 29 points) also have a place.

I can`t help but think that teams like Quins deserve a place more than either of the aforementioned sides.

Quins are in the Heineken Cup because they finished 6th though this may change depending on the result of the Challenge Cup final.

As for the Premiership title being decided by play-offs, it`s something you get used to. The first year, when Gloucester a mile ahead of the pack then lost to Wasps didn`t sit right because the Cherry and Whites had been the best team all season. The format is now settled and all teams know the rules so aim to peak in late April and May so they are at their best as the season finishes.

I hated it when it first came in but now love the play-offs as it keeps the season alive until week 22. I`d still like to see the team at the top of the table recognised in some way.

This season was special and it was a hell of a day because 6 teams (or possibly 7) could reach the top 4 and 2 teams could`ve placed top - no other season has been that competitive.

I don`t like it. The winner should be the winner.
