He's clearly said Chiellini suffered a physical result of a bite, not 'my mouth happened to be open' - which wouldn't be a bite.

He didn't say "I bit him", he said he "suffered the physical result of a bite in the collision he suffered with me."

I don't recall seeing a collision in which Suarez' mouth just happened to be open. I don't even know how you could say that was a collision at all.

And this is a statement he has put out, which means it in theory has been carefully gone over, no doubt by a lawyer to remove any admission that he intentionally bit the guy.

Apologising for something and at the same time not admitting it, is just poor imho.

lol - talk about semantics.
How is saying that Chiellini suffered injury as a result of a bite not saying that he bit him?  Every single article I've read, acknowledges it as admittance and an apology.Quote:

To me it's like the difference between manslaughter and murder (the semantics, not the crime!). You can accidentally shoot someone with a gun, or you can point a gun at them and intentionally shoot them.

I guess I just want to see him actually say "I bit him" rather than getting admittedly extremely close with, "I'm sorry he got bit" but just not quite all the way there. For me that would make up for the dive he did immediately after the fact, and the submission he made to FIFA claiming he didn't do it despite all the TV evidence to the contrary.

The semantics of his language are important imho, which is why I compared his apology to that of a politician.

If I was a violent person and I hit you, would you be happy with me not even admitting I'd done it initially, and then eventually coming out with, "The truth is that my colleague SJ suffered the physical result of a punch in the collision he suffered with me," would you be completely happy with that? Or would you rather I'd just come out and say, "The truth is that I punched my colleague SJ and I'm very sorry I did it."

I think it's the difference between admitting Chiellini got bit, and admitting you intentionally bit him.

But maybe it's just me! I can't even bring myself to listen to politicians anymore, I hate the dishonesty.

Sadly far too many people are loathe to admit their wrong-doings and their mealy mouthed utterances merely strengthen peoples views that they are cretins. In this, Suarez biting a player, he has done everything other than the right thing. Simply stating "I made a qunt of myself and am extremely sorry for my actions". Instead of that simple admission he and the rest of the Uruguay squad/ nation/ F.A. have done everything they can to deflect attention from the real culprit. I have only ever watched one player in Falkirk colours ever put his hand up when he was at fault, that player being Kevin Christie. A man who when he made an erse of it admitted it and for that he is held in high regard by me and many fellow "Bairns". Such an example would be lost on some of the clowns that infest the game nowadays

I'm sure everyone's sick of these things now but, still, this is assez amusant:

In your example scenario you're combining two parts of quotes that he effectively did say.  i.e. An apology would be 'The truth is that my colleague SJ suffered the physical result of a punch in the collision he suffered with me and I deeply regret it' which is effectively what he did say.
He said that Chiellini suffered from the physical result of a bite, he deeply regretted it and apologised to Chiellini and the entire football world and vowed it would never happen again.  Chiellini publically accepted it within the hour (and hoped his ban would be reduced) and every media comment I've seen on it accepted it as the full apology I read it to be.
Man, you'd hold a grudge.  If I punched you, you'd want me on my knees rubbing it in. :)
