Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat - to some its the horror of trying to remember all those colours in school/church productions. Possibly to others the first taste of `real` acting up in front of their peers on the school stage!

Now if your buying this disk, because you don`t know the story, or looking for some incisive and complex plot, you`re in the wrong market. Its for the kids! It has some very catchy songs, an ok plot, based on some sort of book called the Bible I believe.

We had to get this disk, as the full circle has come and my daughter is now performing in it at her school. I find I can still remember most of the colours in order - oh my (there goes all my street cred)!

Its an intersting take on the production, being set as though it really is a school production with all the teachers filing into the hall only to be transformed into actors on the stage.

The production is much as I remember it, although a few of the lyrics have changed over the years.

There is some rather dodgy dubbing in the early scenes where lip-sync seems to be a little off - or maybe its just my aging player.
Donny Osmond is an acceptable Joseph, he can certainly sing, though if its to your taste is another matter, and his acting is ok.

Now I may be wrong, but Richard Attenborough hasn`t exactly made his name in musicals as a singer, which he neatly sidesteps by talking all his handful of lyrics as Jacob!

Joan Collins is only on for a brief cameo really, as Potiphars wife, so blink and you`ll miss her.

Christopher Biggins is also a minor role as the Baker.

Maria Freedman as the narrator - well I`m not sure. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn`t.

No extras, ok transfer, some slight issues with the sound but only briefly.

Overall - well its probably not going to be the DVD you rent to watch in the long winter evenings, snuggled up with cocoa, its a DVD you`ll buy/rent because your child is taking part in a production of the same, and they`ll probably love it. That said, it entertaining enough, but I think they could have done better with lesser names, Dicky and Joan - what were they thinking!

You`ll either love it or hate it, depending on where you are in your life.
