Review of Jeeves And Wooster: The Complete 3rd Series

    5 / 10

    Introduction

Based on the P. G. Woodhouse novels, Jeeves and Wooster follows the escapades of the somewhat idiotic buffoon Bertie Wooster (Hugh Laurie) and his extremely intelligent and very patient butler, Jeeves (Stephen Fry).

These have previously been vailable as double VHS boxsets and have now been rereleased as 2 disc DVD sets, one set per series.

    What Ho? Old Chap!

    Video

    Not too bad :)

The main features are in 4:3 (that`s what shape old tellys were, children) but that`s what was intended, so nothing is missing. Picture quality is good, with acceptable levels of dust and other bits and pieces on the lens. Nothing intrusive, but you will notice it.

Contrast is good and colour is ok, although a little washed out.

The animated DVD menu is nice and cheerful and decked out to match the opening titles nicely.

    Audio

WOW! I though, 5.1 surround - but that was just the DVD menu :( (it`s nicely done though)

The episodes are in stereo and sound resolution and separation are good. The voices, which are the most important part of these comedies, come across well and are always clear and understandable.

You will be forwarding through the titles though, I promise.

    Features

    None.

These really are just the videos in a shiny new format.

    Conclusion

The disc quality is not bad - it`s a great improvement over the videos for example. The comedy is still good and hasn`t dated, `cos it was already old when them made them :)

If you like Woodhouse and English comedy in general you could do worse than to watch these, they are not uproariously funny but will keep you smiling to the end.
