Review of Stepfather, The
Introduction
The first and best outing of the Stepfather franchise that is surprisingly chilling. This is one of those cult 80s movies that get`s little recognition but beats many of the Freddy, Jason, M.Vohrhees slashers in the frights department.
Video
The 1.33:1 presentation is clean with nice colour rendition, although it does contain a large amount of macro blocking on areas of solid colour. Blacks are solid and whites sharp and vivid.
Audio
A harsh, flat Dolby Digital 2.0 stereo mix. No bass or suround makes this an uncomfortable listening experience at high volume.
Features
Just a trailer!
Conclusion
A real chiller but not a great DVD presentation. The sound is ear-bleedingly sharp at high volume and the picture suffers from bad digital artefacting. More care and attention needed on these so called silver collection releases.
