I used to own this player myself and I had the same problem as you did. This player will play vcds if they are genuine ones, however it won`t play CD-R media. It has been alleged that there are some brands of CD-R that will play, but I have no idea of the brand names. I did have some luck using CD-RWs (Memorex & Verbatim) but they were still a bit stubborn to get going at times.

You`re right to assume that I`ve got my video output set to `video`, if I get a scart lead and use the RGB video setting will this improve the playback on the R1 discs?

The only settings are either PAL or AUTO, using the AUTO setting allows the player to automatically switch to NTSC if an NTSC encoded disc is used. My vcds and svcd which are NTSC format are fine under the AUTO setting but it seems that the R1 dvds are not.

Toshiba SD220E - R1 disc playback a bit suspect

Hi there,

I have a multiregion Toshiba SD220E player and it seems that when I play R1 discs the picture looks slightly jerky as if there is some sort of frame loss going on. I`ve looked on various threads to see if there has been similar occurances and I can`t find anything (so far),

At first I figured it may be down to the fact that R1 discs are NTSC but I have a lot of NTSC vcds/svcds and they play smoothly. I also have region 4 dvds and they play fine aswell. I`m all out of options at the moment and I can`t think of anything else it could be. I`m using the standard phono jacks and NOT a scart lead. I`m not sure if this makes a difference to playback.

Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated :-)

hey there,

is your copy of MIB 2 a vcd? If so does your player support vcd playback and also (I`m assuming) your copy of MIB 2 is on CD-R/RW, does your player allow CD-R/RW playback?

I don`t know much about the make and model of your player but check the above criteria and let me know, if it doesn`t support any of the above then that`s maybe why it won`t work.

H&B dvd-5415S picture issues

Hi there,

I`ve got an H&B dvd-5415S and on certain dvds the colour is pixelated, not overwhelmingly bad, but enough to notice. I`ve tried the discs on other players and they seem fine.

Can anybody suggest what the problem is or even better a solution.

I`ve been looking at these two players to buy and I`ve read lots of decent reviews about them and also a couple of negative ones, which still leaves me undecided as to whether or not I should go ahead and buy one of these players.

Does anyone have any opinions on them?

I own a Hitachi DV-P305e myself and I have to say that I`ve had zero luck finding a brand of CD-R that will play successfully on this player. However I have had luck playing Verbatim, Memorex and Yamaha CD-RWs. I`ve found that getting them to initially play can be a bit hit and miss but once they start playing they`re usually alright.

The problem with this model of Hitachi is that it hasn`t been made to play CD-R/RW media :(
