Hitachi DV-P305E - can CD-R/CD-RW be played on it?

the-tatester (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Saturday, 18th August 2001, 13:57

I would like to know if it is possible to get CD-R/CD-RW media to play on this DVD player. If it is I would really like to know how.

Any help will be greatly appreciated

I`m afraid not - it`s a limitation of the laser pickup in the drive unit. Most CD-Rs and CD-RWs are simply not reflective enough to be read by the drive. Adding universal CD-R and CD-RW compatibility would necessitate fitting a better (and, inevitably, more expensive) "dual wavelength" pickup.

All is not lost, though, as a small minority of CD-Rs are actually reflective enough to be picked up by this drive. "Princo" brand discs are among those to look out for. Some people have also reported success with "Vivastar" brand CD-Rs, available from Argos at £20 for a spindle of 50 discs.
