RE: DVD players that support SVCD, VCD, MP3, CDR, CDRW, also multi region and macrovision free.

I can tape DVD`s from my M5, however it may be because the video is very old, anyway where can U buy one for £150?

DVD players that support SVCD, VCD, MP3, CDR, CDRW, also multi region and macrovision free.

I am interested as most (Even expensive players) do not do it all, SOme will play MP3, but no VCD, SVCD on CDR, also some do do SVCD and VCD on CDR and do not play MP3. Prior to hearing about the Alba DVD104, which does not advertise any of these features but nonetheless does them all, the only player I knew of was the Wharfedale M5 which does indeed do everything (I have one of each).

The Wharfedale M5 costs £180 from Tesco

The Alba 104 costs £100 from Argos (As a replacement to the advertised 113 player).

I know people who have spent up to £240 on DVD players which do NOT do them all.

RE: Warm Disks/Alba 104

They all do that honest !!!

RE: DVD+RW

Is this on a computer or are we talking standalone, Also how fast does it encode, and what is the quality (Comparing to DVD rip SVCD`s and DIVX rips)

Also what is the capacity of a dvd + rw, because a lot of DVD`s are about 7 GB, abd previously DVD Writables did not get up to that.

Argos ALBA DVD104, 103, 113 - Regarding Macrovision, VCD, SVCD, CDR, CDRW, MP3.

Ok as I have seen the other thread, and thought I would start one of my own.

To recap, The 104 (A replacement DVD sold as a 113 in Argos) will play everything and is region and macrovision free. I have tested MP3, SVCD, VCD on CDR`s and they all work.

I have also bought the 103 which did not play anything at all !!!, This I returned.

A Friend of mine bought the 113 (Two of them) and neither played VCD or SVCD on CDR`s.

DO NOT !!! buy the 113 or the 103, if you have bought one then take it back and insist on the 104, if they have them they will not mind exchanging them as long as you show the recipt, Just explain that the 104 will play VCD and SVCD so you want that one instead.

RE: Alba DVD113 ?? do not believe

I dont know about that, but a friend of mine just bought two 113`s and neither of those work at all. He has now taken them back and exchanged them for the 104, and they work fine. (This was today and at the Argos Superstore in Northampton)

RE: Alba DVD113 ?? do not believe

Ok, just tested copying the Matrix to Video, and it copys fine, therefore Its Also Macrovision Free too. (The 104 only)

RE: Alba DVD113 ?? do not believe

Get the 104 only, the others do not play anything. I have not tested the macrovision however, But I pplay VCD, SVCD MP3, on writable cd`s fine on mine.

RE: Alba DVD113 ?? do not believe

The 113, may not do anything I have not had that one, also I know that the 103 does not do anything, however I bought the 104, and it indeed does do everything, CDR, CDRW, VCD, SVCD, and Multi Region. I`ve got one so I know.

RE: Alba DVD113 ??

Aditional: The 104 will also play VCD and SVCD, on CDR and CDRW. BTW SVCD is rarely supported on even the real expensive DVD players.

RE: Argos, Alba, and my questions . . . . .

I bought the 104 as a replacement, for a 103 which had been sent to me, The 103 would not play anything, no cdr or cdrw, I suspect it is also not region free, however the 104 will play everything it has more functionality than my Wharfedale M5 (£180 from Tesco) It will play SVCD, VCD, and MP3 on Writable / Re- Writable CD`s, and it will play any region DVD, Also if you check on the net you can buy the 104 for £160 aparrantly.

The extra functionality over my wharfdale is that when you STOP a VCD or SVCD it remembers where you were so you can press PLAY and it will continue where it was, on the Wharfedale it goes back to the beginning. Thats it really, not much apart from it costs nerarly half the price too.
