RE: anyone got any experience of working in Dubai?
Technically its all tax free - but they find ways of getting extra from you.
"Housing fee" on the elec/water bill is really just council tax under another name. Booze is about £3.50 a pint at a bar, and they stick on 30% tax if you get it from the local off licence. There is new road toll, but no alternative routes.... they all slowly drain the same amount that tax would.
Taxis are dirt cheap and so is eating out, so its not all bad!

RE: anyone got any experience of working in Dubai?
There are a number of very nice bars with outdoor areas, or beach areas, but they are all associated with a hotel... i think just about every bar here is. Its a definate NO about walking around with booze though, in fact, you`d be lucky to get outside of a bar with a drink.
They don`t look favorably on public drunkeness, but as long as you don`t bother the other inmates then the cops leave you well alone... especially if you`re white, (sad but true).
RE: anyone got any experience of working in Dubai?
I`m living in Dubai right now.
A year is about long enough to do and see everything without getting fed up with the place - its actually not a very big town.
Most free time is spent in one posh bar or another, so if you want to save some cash take it easy on the drinking. Also the cost of rent is soaring every year, prices are comparable to London prices - i have a 2 bed apt in Bur Dubai and pay about £1,100/month.
You can have a really great time here, but the trap is that you end up spending a lot of what you make.
I`m not sure if this was any help? If you have some more specific questions i`ll do my best to answer them for you.
RE: Free BBC DVD with Corn Flakes
...apparently, they may also contain nuts as well! ;)
RE: Important Legal Question
You MUST take your documents to court, often they ask for them to be there a week before the trial date.
The clerk was always able to talk about my case, once it was explained to them, and offer sound advice on the likely outcome and sentance.... they do this every day, whereas the magistrates have other jobs and only act as magistrates a few times a week!
RE: Important Legal Question
..sorry, one other thing.
If he is gonna plead guilty, then there is not a great deal a lawyer can do to help. But if pleading not guilty, then they are priceless.
The court appointed lawyers for the prosection are, in my experience, idiots. When you hire a lawyer they will always do a much better job then the prosection, and often make them look incompetant.
Good luck.
RE: Important Legal Question
Hiya, I would like to add a few things here.
I have had the unfortunate experience of being in a magistrates court 3 times last year (on both sides of the system), and you can expect them to be like a mini courtroom that you would see on TV. But you will have to stand in the `dock` and face a magistrate(s).
If a plea of not guitly is entered then they will set a date for you to reappear at the magistrates for a trial at a later date. If you plead guilty, they will give you the opportunity to explain why you did this, and explain any special circumstances. The magistrate will then leave the room and go to their chambers and have a think about the sentance they will give you. A lot depends on the individual magistrate, and what kind of day they are having.
I was facing a certain ban for being caught doing 92 in a 50 zone, but got off with points and a fiine... its just down to luck, and how they feel at that point in time.
You can call the court and ask to speak to the clerk of the court. These people REALLY know their stuff, and helped me a lot... probably stopped me getting banned.
Hope this helps.
RE: Are there any girls here at all?
So there is ONE girl who uses these forums - how does it feel chocdrop-angel to be completely on your own (gender-wise that is?)
RE: I`ll have a small one please...
No - you`re alright there mate. A simple description would do the job. But I think I have an idea how its supposed to work - its just what you`re supposed to do with the pillow thats thrown me.
RE: Are there any girls here at all?
Everyone has to draw the line somewhere - and I just found the lowest point, and Jade is way under that.
RE: So how did you get your username then?
Mr_Winky?? - everything else i usually use was already taken, and for some reason Mr Winky seemed amusing at the time. Does have its draw backs though, for some reason people don`t take me too seriously?
RE: I`ll have a small one please...
The 2 mirrors and a pillow comment - can someone explain this please. I`m not sure what i`m missing out on.
RE: Are there any girls here at all?
I know i said aim low, but..... c`mon. The girl is an utter moron, not to mention her repulsive exteria - i may not be too fussy, but i`m not that desperate....yet .
Seriously though, are there any females that use these forums?
RE: I`ll have a small one please...
Andrew,
You`re just trying to show off now aren`t you. Just the other day you didn`t know you had a gay percentage, and now you`re trying to tempt me with your hi-flying lifestyle and business prowess.
Speaking about your business abilities - I make 21% of 42% only about 8.8% - which is not the kind of commitment i`d expect from a relationship. Thats the kind of loyalty i`d expect from a cat. I bet you`d come back if i kept feeding you though wouldn`t you? ;p
RE: Are there any girls here at all?
Always aim low mate - its alot more successful. After careful study i have found the lower end of the `spectrum` to be alot more crowded then the top.
Anyway, whats wrong with the name Mr Winky? I think it shows my adorable and fun loving side :) (i`ve heard that chicks dig that!).
Are there any girls here at all?
After much disapointment on the hunt for a replacement girlfriend over in the hardware forum, I have decided to widen my search - to the general forum.
Are there any girls that use this site at all? If so how many of you are young, free, and single - oh and rather attractive as well?
RE: I`ll have a small one please...
Andrew, only 42% gay - that means you`ll only ever be 42% commited to the relationship - much like my ex-girlfriend. So, I`m very flattered, but I`m gonna have to turn down your generous offer.
One thing I am curious to know is - which 42% of you is the gay bit(s)?
I think I may pop over to the general forum and see if there`s any girly types over there.
Cheers all.
RE: I`ll have a small one please...
Finally - one of you sad gits can push me in the direction of a girly. Sad reflection on affairs, that within minutes i can get several people give the size of a DVD player, but not one real female opportunity.
Cheers all the Kiiro looks nice and small, and will do the business - any ideas on a VCR of similar dims??
Cheers
I`ll have a small one please...
Can any one recommend a narrow DVD player (must be multiregion) and VCR - by narrow I mean the left to right dimension as you look on to the player. I want them to fit side-by-side under my (28") TV, rather than on top of each other, cos they get very hot. The loss of girlfriend has ment loss of some electrical goods - so time to replace them (goods & girlfriend).
Also if anyone can recommend an attractive, young, single, not-to-fussy girly in the Kent area, it could go a long way to help improve the current situation :)
Would appreciate any comments.
Cheers
RE: 2 Hours and No Sound!!!
Giles & Co - thanks for your help - finally got it cracked.
Firstly my amp is the Kenwood KRF-V5050D which does DTS DD and all that kinda thing, incl pro-logic.
..back to the storey. Managed to get sound out of one scart socket (my tv only has L&R AV connections on the front and i don`t like having the cables hanging out the front) and managed to enable one of the video inputs on the amp to accept the input from the tv. From there onwards I just selected the pro-logic function (or any other effect) and hey presto!
It now sounds grrrrrrrreat. Thanks again to everyone that helped.
RE: 2 Hours and No Sound!!!
Giles, Cheers for the advice, but what you said about the Scart connection can`t be quite true because I used to connect my TV this way to an old hi-fi amp and get stereo sound no problems.
After yet another reading of the instructions I have managed to get stereo sound by running the connection from the Scart on the TV to the L&R front speaker connections for the 6-channel input - a bit messy but it works. For some reason I could get no sound running the TV through either of the video connections provided - any ideas why?
Oh, and one last thing - my amp can handle Pro-logic sound, but I don`t have a pro-logic TV, am I able to set it up in such a way to get pro-logic sound??
All advice muchly appreciated! Cheers agin.
2 Hours and No Sound!!!
Please help - just took delivery of my Kenwood KRFV5050 amp, and a set of surround sound speakers. I can connect my DVD player and get 5.1 sound no problems - BUT connecting my TV through the amp is proving difficult.
I have a Sharp TV with 3 scarts on the back - I use one for the DVD and the other(s) I was using a Scart-to-co-axial lead through a normal stereo. But try and run it through the new amp, and no sound AT ALL comes out.
Any suggestions please?
Macrovision hack for Sherwood?????
Recently got a Sherwood VD-4106 from Richer Sounds for £99 (usually £199) - got it home to find it has the same remote, on-screen-display, and multiregion hack as my old LG 2330 (all of which use the Awia 370 hack). But....... my LG has macrovision turned off - so is it possible to do the same for the Sherwood - does anybody know how???
Thanks.
RE: Acoustic Solutions DVD551??
What kind of name is Mr_Wanky anyway? What a moron, what the hell do you know?
- alright mate howz it goin`?
RE: Acoustic Solutions DVD551??
Cheers pal - will the machine play RCE titles if just region 1 is selected?
Acoustic Solutions DVD551??
Does anyone know anything about this player/company? This machine is advertised on the Richer Sounds web page as multi-region, the stats look good on paper, and it is only £119 - is it worth it?
