RE: Thanx for your advice (Clayts,RichardH and markyd) New advice needed?

Im still waiting too , phoned them today and they are still expecting them at the end of the month fingers crossed , i`ve had my speakers for 2 weeks now still in the box waiting for the big day :) hope it will be soon!
let me know Khai if you get yours soon. Im like a big kid waiting for christmas "LOL"

RE: Thanx for your advice (Clayts,RichardH and markyd) New advice needed?

Khai they said it may be the end of the month before they can get hold of them, the gold version is like rocking horse sh*t at the moment :)

They let me have the Qed Silver Anniversary Biwire for £5.50 a metre &
the Qed Original for £1.75 a metre.

RE: Thanx for your advice (Clayts,RichardH and markyd) New advice needed?

Thank for all the advice (all be it getting a little scientific towards the end)

In the end i`ve gone for the Qed Silver Anniversary Biwire for the
fronts and centre and Qed Original for the rears.
Hifijunkies gave me some discount on all the cable for having to wait for my gold SR5200 receiver to come into stock.
so less to pay out for reasonable quality cable makes me happy :)

thanks again jimmy

RE: Thanx for your advice (Clayts,RichardH and markyd) New advice needed?

thanx for such a quick response Clayts :)

I see R/S do the Gale speaker cable,s
xl 105 @ 69p per metre
xl 189 @ 99p "" ""
xl hyperlitz 250 @ £1.49
xl 315 @ £1.99
xl 160-2@ £2.99

which cable do you recommend to go for, for the rears ,the fronts and centre ,a mix of any of the above are about right for my price range.

Thanx jimmy

Thanx for your advice (Clayts,RichardH and markyd) New advice needed?

Thanx for your advice on my first setup.
http://www.dvd.reviewer.co.uk/forums/thread.asp?Forum=211&Thread=72435&Type=1

In the end i went for-
Marantz sr5200 ==£305 from http://www.hifijunkies.co.uk =great price and exellent customer service.
I also took your advice and after reading westy`s review i a went for the Wharfedale Diamond 8.3 cinema package from QED, great price £276.33
ordered them both yesterday.
so got them both within my budget,

all i need now is advice on what speaker cable to use , and interconnects, i see that you (Clayts & westy) recommend getting them from http://www.beyondhifi.net/ but i cannot
see any digital coaxial cables for my dvd player only optical, i am probably looking in the wrong place so please could you point me in the right direction to them.
btw a richer sounds shop is close to me so i could get cable etc from them i just need some good advice on what to get.

Once again thanx for all your help jimmy (jim`ll fixit)

RE: Marantz SR5200, Pioneer DV545, and Wharfedale Diamond 8.3 package ...

The marantz sr5200 are £305 at the moment at http://www.hifijunkies.co.uk
and are uk ones with 2 years warranty.
Also one thing i got off them was ( that rarest of things: good customer service.) I phoned them tuesday for some advice on the Marantz receivers and one of their staff said that the one i really needed to speak to was busy with another customer and can we ring you back ! (well you can guess what my thoughts were "I WONT HERE FROM THEM"
Well to my suprise they rang me back when they said and spent 20 minutes or more giving me advice and answering my questions.

So with there friendly service:
Great price:
Free deliver using UPS, one of the best couriers:
They got my order yesterday for the gold sr5200.

BTW if it was QED you saw the sr5200, it was the uk one with its 2 year
warranty, i got in contact with them to confirm this. but by the time i decided which amp to go for they had put the price up on all the marantz range :(
I have also gone for the Wharfedale Diamond 8.3 package from QED, great price £276.33

Advice needed on AV amp and Speakers ? Westy!, Clayts! & other expert`s

ok im looking for any advice on a Av amp and speakers to go with my Sharp 740h Dvd player, about £600 in total to spend. would also like to connect my video, sky digibox and cd player to it.
The room is about 15ft x 13ft.
TV being used is a Panasonic dolby pro logic with 4 separate speakers that came with it.

Amp,s that ive been considering are
Yamaha 620 with or without receiver.
marantz 4200
Denon 1802

speakers, a big ?

or maybe a complete system like the yamaha HTiB -40 (rxv420rds & ns-p220 speaker package) would be better?

Any recommendations would be a big help.

THANX Jimmy

RE: Sharp DV740H has the same problems that of Sampo 611.

Thanks clayts, are all the players having this problem or just some of them? what are your thoughts to the cause of this problem (dvd drive, firmware, etc)
I like this player but dont want to be left with a DOODOO player like my samsung 807.
If i change the player what would you recommend (Sampo and other makes) ?
Ive seen the Wharfedale M5 for £150 is this a much better player and has no faults?

Thanks to the team at Area 450

jimmy saville (and sorry jim`ll fixit cannot fixit this time)

RE: Sharp DV740H has the same problems that of Sampo 611.

sorry m8 ,the only way im aware of to make the SHARP DV620 multiregion is to have it chipped.

Sharp DV740H has the same problems that of Sampo 611.

It looks like the Sharp DV740H has the same problems that of Sampo 611 .
watched the Gladiator and Bridget jones`s diary both R1 and about 29 mins in to the film on the Gladiator it froze up just for a second or 2, and then starts back up again (you can hear the disc spinning in the meantime), it also did the same thing with B-J-Diary cannot remember how far into the film, but when i rewound it back to the point where it froze up it plays perfectly with no problems and continues to play the rest of the film with no hiccups at all.

Is anyone else having any problems with this player?

RE: SHARP DV740 - ANY SECRET MENUS?

ok this is taken off the site of the good people of area 450.
1. Open up Windows Notepad or similar text editor, and type in, or copy and paste
"TSDVDREG-2001-8939912-R0" (without the quotation marks)

2. Save the file as "CREGIN.TXT" (again, without the quotation marks)

3. Burn this single file to a CD-R using ISO 9660 Mode 1 format (not Joliet).

4. Insert the CD into the DV740 - note this is not a firmware flash, merely accessing a factory setting.

5. "R0" should appear in the bottom left of the screen - if it does not you may already have a multiregion player

hope that helps m8 and it definately works, you can write the text file to a rewriteable disk so if u got it wrong the first time just erase it and try again.

RE: SHARP DV740 - ANY SECRET MENUS?

my impression of this player is > picture quality is excellent compared to my old samsung, my kid`s were watching a bugs life the other day and the colours were so much more vivid and the black was very sharp,
I cannot comment to much on the sound because only using it in pro-logic but using the the virtual 3d surround sound effect built in to the player gives it that little extra boost.
It`s also played every disk i`ve but in it (dvd R2&R1,vcd on a cdr disk, mp3 & a cdrw which i used to but the txt file on to make it region-free)
The only thing i would complain about is the quality of the Disc Tray it seem`s very flimsy compared to a lot of other players i`ve looked at.

Clayts: just as a matter of interest if i put an 1 on the end` instead of the 0
(eg .TSDVDREG-2001-8939912-R1) whould this make it a region 1 player only?

RE: bargin of the week SHARP DV740H player for £129.99

ok Clayts i`ll stop shouting about it ;) but its nice to get a decent player at the right price!,
keep the good work up on your site http://www.area450.com/
but as for using ezboard for your forum, in my opinion and probably that of many others, they want to know too many personal details when signing up (Address, Annual Household Income Before Taxes,
Marital Status etc,) which are not relevant when posting questions and answers on a site discussing DVD players. So I declined to sign up. Sorry!

bargin of the week SHARP DV740H player for £129.99

confirming that the hack for the Sharp DV740H works :)

I can confirm that the hack for the Sharp DV740H (uk 0ne) that is on http://www.area450.com/ site works with no known problems :)
played the Matrix and T2 ultimate edition both region 1 with no jumping and skipping which used to pee me off when played on my old samsung 807.
I also used a rewritable disk to put the CREGIN.TXT file on ,so if you get the txt file wrong the first time just erase it and try again, no disk wasted.
