Sony STR-DE495P A/V receiver - Can I use 6 Ohm speakers?

Hi,

I have just been given a Sony STR-DE495P a/v receiver and was wondering if it is ok to use a pair of Panasonic rear surround and centre speakers, that are rated at 6 ohms? It`s probably a stupid question as the amp says 8 to 16 ohm speakers on the back.

Can I do anything to modify the speakers to 8 ohms?

I`d be grateful for any advice.

I`ve just found how to make it multi-region.

With NO DISC in the player

Press SET UP on the remote control

Go to GENERAL SET UP PAGE, using the right key on the r/c (It`s the 5th sub section on the right)

Press 1,3,6,9

A rectangular display box comes up on screen showing "Region Code 2".

Using the DOWN KEY on the r/c, select 0

Press ENTER

I`ve tested The Hollow Man RCE (R1) disc and it plays fine

Hi Catronic,

My brother brought one of these back in the summer (for £60.00), so far I`ve had no luck in tracing any hacks for it. I`ve heard that it needs to have a chip mod fitted rather than a remote hack.

It`s a shame about the lack of multi-region but it`s still a nice machine.

:D Thanks Rassilon63, I`ve been after a portable dvd player for ages but couldn`t really afford to splash out £200.00. I thought I was going to have to make do with one of the 3.5" screen players from Woolies. I am really impressed with the picture quality and I like the idea of the disc navigation controls being on the player as well as the remote control.
