7" Portable for under a hundred quid.

The Typhoon at Staples.

2 local stores (Exeter) have it at £90 & £99 respectively, its very very similar to the Cyberhome series, same basic styling & layout of the controls, lower build quality, battery slips into a compartment in the unit itself so its smaller & lighter than the CH & others of its ilk.

Saw the splash screen on it yesterday in the old Office World as they migrate the store to Staples branding & close the old one down, its the same as my MP Man so it should take the MR hack without problems.

Battery life is unknown factor at this time.

If Mac users are "more intelligent than the average computer user," why do they need an operating system designed for complete idiots?

Also selling 17" widescreen TV/Monitors for £204.00 and DVD Recorders for £89.00.
The 7" portable is a good buy especially as it is also progressive scan and multiregion.

I didnt see that on Saturday, though they have sold them in the past. It may make a cheap backup recorder too.
I will have to check on Saturday.

:D Thanks Rassilon63, I`ve been after a portable dvd player for ages but couldn`t really afford to splash out £200.00. I thought I was going to have to make do with one of the 3.5" screen players from Woolies. I am really impressed with the picture quality and I like the idea of the disc navigation controls being on the player as well as the remote control.

Christmas starts early this year 8)

Cheers mate

Just found how to make this multi-region

With NO DISC in the player

Press SET UP on the remote control

Go to GENERAL SET UP PAGE, using the right key on the r/c (It`s the 5th sub section on the right)

Press 1,3,6,9

A rectangular display box comes up on screen showing "Region Code 2".

Using the DOWN KEY on the r/c, select 0

Press ENTER

I`ve tested The Hollow Man RCE (R1) disc again and it plays fine

Yes thats the same hack for the Cyberhome\MP Man as I & others have posted for the last year (its common).

I would buy it as a backup personally except I took 3 year warranty out at the time & I may have a recurring problem with it but Dixons where I bought it from have told me basically its a exchange to its nearest upward equivalent (& allowing for the value of the additional battery I bought), kinda looking on that basis for the ferguson 8.2" job in the sales at Christmas. ;)

I went to my local Staples and they had none (which was typical, as on Tuesday they had 6 on display - just didn`t get paid until today!).

I Just hope that they get these back in stock as i want one! :(

I phoned the two Staples stores local to me last night (Beckton and Chadwell Heath) and neither had this player in stock. I see it was advertised in the Sun today for £89-99, I`m surprised it wasn`t sold for £9.99 considering they had already sold out >:(

I was basing my my earlier posts opinion on the shop display units I have seen (& I think I checked a box earlier in the year when they were £199.99).

The slots seemed to be there to allow the "CH" Type of battery to lock in, but not to connect to a power connectors, instead there was a slide off battery cover & a Nokia 3310 sized battery to insert there (leading me to think it was a bastird of a hybrid unit, especially with the lower build quality - Yes I know I keep saying that ;) but dont want any negative feed back because I didnt state it).

Personally I think you may be better off with the bigger battery anyway & the fact you can get spare ones, but confused now as it would appear the display models are either one of two possible varients or its designed to make you think your getting a slimmer unit.
