Aiwa XD-DV170 region hack

Has anyone who has a UK model (bought from Makro) managed to get the region hack from the region hack page to work? Or any region other hack to work? I`ll be buggered if I can get any to work! I get the `factory` display up, but it still refuses to play R1 discs.
