1) Power on the Player

RE: Pioneer or Sony?
I eventually went for the Sony basically because it fitted in with the rest of my kit. Cheers for the advice though.

Help with my Sony S336
I bought the S336 today in replacement to a faulty Scan SC2000. What can I say, wow it`s really good, sounds amazing, picture is superb with blacks being really black and no blocky images.
However, I have a normal 4:3 TV, according the Sony`s manual I should set the aspect ratio of the TV to 4:3 pan & scan, the manual says that this will display the wide picture on the TV and cut of the bits that don`t fit, in other words the picture should fill the screen. However whenever I change the ratio to 4:3 pan scan I get a letter box view (blacks bands top and bottom) . The image is also stretched out more than on the 16:9 mode. To combat this I have to change the ratio to 16:9 (for wide TVs) to get a decent size image, however the image is still letter box but taller on this ratio.
Can someone please help.
Pioneer or Sony?
Just sent back my Scan SC2000. I am now looking at the Pioneer 525 or the Sony S335. Both seem like good machines the Sony looks good but the Pioneer is supposed to have excellent picture quality. What should I do?
Your help is appreciated.
RE: Problems with Scan sc2000
When I contacted Scan about my player with the same problem (blocky images), they told me it was to do with compression, meaning that dark images would look blocky. They told me I needed a firmware upgrade, confirmed by a senior manager.
Do you think Scan a taking me for a ride, and have made up a story just to keep me quite?
This is my second SC2000, the first one sent back with the same problem.
RE: Scan SC2000 Problems
Matt
Also look at the thread called Problems With Scan SC2000 posted by Rob Brady. On the second page of this thread there is an e-mail from Scan.
RE: Scan SC2000 Problems
I can`t actually find where I found it. But every time I have spoken to Scan they have said that the image should not look blocky or pixilated.
There is apparently someone at Scan called Nelley Raja who deals with the DVD players. One of the times I contacted Scan the person I spoke to said that Nelley Raja was on the phone to the manufacturer trying to sort out these problems.
RE: Scan SC2000 Problems
Matt
Did not actually get his name. The person who I did speak to claimed that it was a senior manager who said that the machine needed a firmware upgrade.
You say that they deny all knowledge of this bug, but on this website they say they have received an e-mail form Scan about the problem and are willing to replace the faulty machines in the middle of August.
I have spoken to Scan several times and each time I get a different story. Firstly they say they`ll call me back which they never do, when I call them they try to say it`s the compression of the player.
I think I might just send the player back for a refund!
Scan SC2000 Problems
Can some please help!
I am now on my second SC2000 within the space of a week. The first one sent back because of blocky and undetailed scenes on dark images. The replacement SC2000 still does the same thing.
I contacted Scan on Monday and told them of the problem. They said a few people had the same trouble and that they would phone me back after they had spoken to the manufactuer. However I did not here anything from them until I contacted them today. They are now telling me I need a firmware upgrade, which could take up to a month. What is a Firmware upgrade, and will I need to send the player back to Scan again?
Or should I get my money back and buy another player? What player would offer the same performance for the same price?
Your help is much apprecaited.
