Alba DVD103 - MP3 comaptible or not?

Im thinking about geting a replacement for my Daewoo, which is beset by problems. I was looking at the Alba, I know it is region free but can anybody confirm if it can play MP3 discs? I heard this somewhere but cannot find anything to confirm it. Also, how does it handle CDR / RW`s?

Just one more thing, am I right in thinking that the Macrovision cannot be disable? This is not a major point, but it would be nice to have the option.

Daewoo / Scan (Again!)

As you may know from reading previous posts in this forum, I have been having numerous problems with my Daewoo player. I`m getting pretty annoyed with it, so it will be going back to Argos.

Of course i`m now looking for a replacement.

My question is, are there any other players out there for similar money (£200 or less) that have the same features as the Daewoo / Scan player?, i.e. CDR / RW compatibility, MP3 playback, region coding and macrovision that can be easily disabled... etc.

I know i`m not asking much, but there must be something else out there!

Thanks in advance for your advice.

RE: Daewoo DHC-2200K Problems

Thanks for your responses. I have cured the interference line problem by switching off the digital output as suggested, but if I upgrade to a Doldy Digital amp... well you get the picture.

One the subject of the Matrix, I think my problem could be with a dodgy disc. I borrowed it from a friend and on closer inspection it appears to be damaged. I`ll try another copy but as nobody else seems to have any problems it could just be that.

On a plus point, the MP3 function is excellent, much more convenient and better sound quality than from a PC.

Daewoo DHC-2200K Problems

I have just bought a Daewoo DHC-2200 from Argos after reading the revies of the Scan player on this sight. I got the region and macrovision hack to work ok, but I have encountered other problems.

The review of the Scan said it plays The Matrix fine, not the Daewoo. Mine clunks and whirrs for about 30 seconds when you put the disc in, then finally brings up the menu. If you start the movie, the logo comes up, then the picture stutters and finally the whole thing just locks up.

As mentioned in other posts, the picture is supect on composite, havn`t tried S-VHS yet. The colour is OK, but I get interferenece lines. I have tried several leads, using both the Scart and the Phone outs. Pixellation and artefacts are also evedient on some discs, both region 1 + 2.

I hope i`ve just got a dodgy one as far as playing the Matrix goes, but it seems that a lot of you out there have had similar problems with botht the Daewoo and the Scan.
