About this user: Recently bought a Philips DVD recorder. Trying to phase out VHS tapes. Still experimenting. Trying to find the best DVD/VHS recorder combi. No one seems to know much about DVD+RW discs.

Toshiba RD-XS30

Hi Guys,
Over the years several members have asked this question and never received a reply,
probably because there isn`t a hack for this product.

However, it`s worth asking again. Is there a hack for the Toshiba RD-XS30?

Yours pessimistically

I can`t erase my DVD+RW discs!

I had a Philips DVD recorder which had so many defects I received a full refund. I now have DVD recording software preloaded on my new computer and I should be able to copy video, files, data etc onto my DVD+RW discs. However, I cannot erase the brand named discs (HP,Sony,Philips). Strangely enough, I can easily erase the few unbranded cheap DVD+RW discs I have. "Veritas Record now" is the software loaded which has an "Erase disc" facility but it only works on the cheaper discs. Can anyone please advise if there is an alternative method of erasing data off DVD+RW discs as I am presently unable to make use of the numerous discs I bought originally for use on the Philips DVD recorder. Many thanks

RE: Major problems with Philips DVD recorders!

Thanks for your comments regarding Philips DVD Recorders. I`ve had one problem after another with my model 1000. Wont play pre-recorded discs, wont record, wont finalise etc..

I was thinking it was me but after reading your message it`s clear that Philips have not got it right. So why is there very little publicity asking Philips to get their act together?

Thanks

Finalising DVD+R Discs

I have a Philips DVD Recorder (Model 1000). When I record TV programmes on to a DVR+R it plays fine. However when I finalise the disc to enable me to play it on other equiment I get a "disc error" message or "unknown data on disc". As a result the disc wont play at all and I have to throw it away. This has happened several times. Can anyone know what is going wrong and how can I overcome this problem?
Thanks

DVD+R Discs

I see that you can buy DVD+R discs for as cheaply as £2 each now.
Notably Datawrite, Intenso and Infiniti. Are these discs OK or is it better to stick the well known brands such as Philips and Sony even though they are more expensive? Thanks

Philips DVDR Model 1000

I have had nothing but trouble with my DVD recorder. After 2 months it stopped playing DVD`s. It went back to Philips and 8 weeks later I got it back! Now, when I set the timer instead of recording a programme it actually erases the whole disc (DVD+RW). However, when I simply press record I have no problem. I don`t want to send it back to Philips or I may never see it again. Anyone know what the problem might be and how to fix it? Has anyone else had problems with the Philips recorders?
Many thanks

DVD+R Discs

I have a Philips DVDR (model 1000). So far I have only used DVD+RW discs but have just had my machine upgraded to accept DVD+R.

Can I copy on to the DVD+R and then stop and restart from a different source and continue from where I left off on the disc or do I have to copy in one hit?.

DVD+RW Discs

I recently bought a Philips DVD recorder (Model 1000). It only records DVD+RW discs. I want to buy a DVD player but none of the retailers can confirm that I will be able to play DVD+RW discs. In fact no one seems to know much about the compatability of DVD+RW. Has anybody got any suggestions please?

Thanks

Samsung SV-DVD3E

I want to buy a DVD Player/VHS recorder combi. The Samsung
SV-DVD3E seems to have a good spec. However, it is region 2 only and ideally I would like a multi region player. Does anyone know how to hack this model please?

Thanks
