DVDR880- usual problems - HELP!

Hi,
well my dvdr880 started playin up a couple of months ago, i just finally got round to investigating what it could be, and have found that there are tons of people with the same problems.

Mine are, always saying `No disk` when there clearly is a working disk, always freezing especially on the layer change, and the occasional opening/closing of the tray on it`s own (complete with `error` on the screen).

I checked out my firmware and it appears to be version 10, does upgrading the firmware solve any of these problems?

I read elsewhere it was a problem with the lasers, if that is the case i guess i am done for as this machine is a few months out of warenty...

Has anyone else had these problems/ gotten them fixed? if so was it expensive or did phillips pay up?

Thanks for your help, sorry for so many questions

RE: DVD+R Discs

From what I can make out your trying to say, the answer is yes. You can make several different recordings at different times, you can even delete recordings (this does not actually delete the recording, it just stops the player from recognising it, and makes it skip forward automatically) once deleted you simply lose the space on the disc. Once you finalise the disc, and enable it to be played in other players no changes can be made.

Hope this helps,

Sorry if it doesn`t

RE: Anyone bought the Philips DVDR880 Multi-region recently

Hi, as far as I am aware of, you cann`ot play DVD+RW on many machines. DVD+R`s can be played on a lot of the newer players but they first need to be finalised. This can be done by going into the disc menu. I`m not 100% sure but this is what i`ve heard and read. Hope this helps.

RE: macrovision and the dvdr880

Thanks everyone for replying, iv`e hacked and connected my 709 directly to the dvdr880 and it records other disks great.
I must say before buying the dvdr880 i had wondered what the quality of the recordings would be like, I expected graining, pixelating etc but it has been excelent so far and well worth the money.

Thanks Gav

macrovision and the dvdr880

Hi, i`m not realy too sure how the copy protected system for dvd`s etc works, but I was just wondering. If I was to use the hack available to disable the region coding and macrovision on my Samsung 709, would I then be able to back-up dvd`s onto my dvdr880?

Sorry if that dose`nt make sense.

Thanks, Gav

RE: Anyone bought the Philips DVDR880 Multi-region recently

Hi, just bought my dvdr880, and to answer your question it does have its own tuner just like a vcr. I was amazed at many of the other features you get as well that aren`t mentioned in any info about it. Definately well worth the money.

RE: Anyone bought the Philips DVDR880 Multi-region recently

When I went in to my local Richer Sounds ready to buy it, the guy said they have been stopped by Philips from selling at this price and are no longer going to supply them. Has anyone else noticed how the price for this machine has increased in the last few weeks. I found several places selling it at £410 etc now they`ve shot their prices right up to £450 - 460.

If anyone can still find a place selling a multi region pretty cheap then please let me know. pretty cheap as in £420 - 430

Cheers
