Sounds to me that it is your tv that is the problem. If you are playing a R1 NTSC disc the player will be sending out an NTSC signal. Your TV might not be able to switch to the higher refresh rate (60hz as opposed to 50). Some TVs can be made to work by adjusting the hold controls. Check to see if your TV is mult-standard (PAL and NTSC).
