Philips 32PW9617 tv - compatible DVD player

I have recently purchased the above model of tv ( and am very happy with it ) and am looking to purchase my first ever DVD player.
Please excuse my ignorance, but I am confused. Does the 5 speaker set up of my tv ( ie 3 on board the tv and 2 remote cordless ) affect what DVD player is appropriate? In particular, would something like the Philips DVD723 with its "sub-woofer" output be suitable? Presumably to get the best out of this I would need to invest in a stand alone sub-woofer and sound would simply come out of 6 speakers.
Alternatively, is it overkill to consider a full home cinema kit with its DVD player and sub woofer as part of the package? - but that would mean an awfull lot of speakers in total! As you can probably gather, I like the idea of beefing up the base for that special deep sound effect!!
E-mails to Philips customer services have so far gone unanswered so any advice/comment would be helpfull as I am keen to purchase ASAP to enter the wonderfull world of DVD which I keep hearing about but have yet to properly experience.

RE: DVD PLAYER £64.99 at Superdrug...

Guys!
Sorry to highjack the thread, but are any of you "multi region" officionados able to answer my "Philips Remote Multi Region Hack" query from 04/11/02 - now on page 2 of the forum. Curiosity is killing this cat!

Philips Remote Multi Region Hack

I`m a complete newcomer to DVD and am about to purchase my first player. I am interested in multi-region play but am a little confused by what I have read on this website.
If one uses the remote hack, do you need to do this each time you use an "out of region" disc and is this why I read reference to machines locking up after 25 changes?
If I purchase a "multi-region" player from someone like WebElectricals, will the machine be permanently enabled without the complication of ever locking up?
