Cello 14" TV/DVD combi - multiregion for £79.99 at the Co-Op

After a couple of months of looking for a cheap multiregion TV/DVD unit (see thread in the Hardware forum) I finally found what I was looking for last night. My local Co-Op are selling a Cello 14" TV/DVD combi unit for £79.99 and it is multiregion compatible out of the box (tested it with a Regino 1 disc last night - no problems).

If you`re interested in one of these then you do need to watch out - there are two Cello models which are identically priced. The one with only a couple of buttons on the front is *not* mulitregion compatible (I bought one and had to take it back) - the multiregion ones look a bit less elegant (the DVD tray is bigger and more squared off, there are about 7 or 8 buttons on the front of the unit) but for £80 I`m happy enough!

Regards,

Derek.

RE: Is there a multiregion TV/DVD combi ??

Well I`ve finally found what I was looking for! Following a chat with the nice man in the electrical department in my local Co-Op I`ve bought a 14" Cello TV/DVD unit which is multiregion out of the box (tested last night with my Region 1 Blade Runner - no problems).

These are currently on sale at £79.99 - there are two models and you need to make sure that you get the one with all the buttons on the front (it looks less elegant to my eyes than the other Cello model, but that one is not multiregion).

Regards,

Derek.

RE: hack urgently needed alba tvd 3450

I`m thinking of getting one of these. According to www.dvd365.net the following hack works:

Multi-Region:

Press DVD mode button on the TV panel
Press Set Up on the remote control
Press Next Arrow on the remote control (4 times) to open the Version Screen which shows the words version 2 on the top right hand corner of the TV screen
Use Arrow Keys on remote to change version to 255 which is the setting for multi region
Press Set Up on remote to save setting
Thanks to Andrew for the information

If you try this and get it to work could you please post a reply here. I know that if this doesn`t work it`ll be frustrating for you, but you could save me from buying one of these!

Regards,

Derek.

RE: Is there a multiregion TV/DVD combi ??

Well the picture for the 3450XI shows it as silver:

http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&catalogId=2501&langId=-1&categoryId=16781&productId=115859

and I`ve found a hack for it on www.dvd365.net so I think the order will be placed! If it`s black when it turns up then I won`t sign for it.

Thanks again,

Derek.

RE: Is there a multiregion TV/DVD combi ??

I`m currently investigating Argos (don`t have a handy local Index store) who have the Goodmans GTV14T3DVD (overpriced for me at £129.99 including five movies (unnamed)), the Bush 142/145 (implies you get one of the other on some random basis?), the Alba TVD3455 and the ALbA TVD3450XI (can`t see a difference between these two apart from the fact that the latter is £10 cheaper).

Now to check the list for multiregionability (is that a word? Should be!)

Thanks for all the help so far.

Regards,

Derek.

RE: Is there a multiregion TV/DVD combi ??

Thanks Blodwin - just checked the site and they are out of stock :(

At least I got a full refund on the Cello go I can start again with full pockets :)

I`ll have a trawl around and see where else I can find the Goodmans.

Regards,

Derek.

RE: Is there a multiregion TV/DVD combi ??

I can go one better than a photo - there`s some footage of it in a Co-Op TV ad on:

http://www.co-op.co.uk/tvads/1_11_04/index_TV_UK1.html

if that helps!

RE: Is there a multiregion TV/DVD combi ??

It was from the Co-Op and I was told (by the Manager) that it was multiregion so Ithink I`ll be OK taking it back.

I`m sure it is just a rebrand butI tried the hacks I could find (by searching on "TV/DVD" in these forums and others) and none of them worked. I know other people have bought this model (also from the Co-Op) and have found it to be multiregion out of the box so I`m sure it can be done!

Derek.

Is there a multiregion TV/DVD combi ??

I recently bought a Cello combi TV/DVD hoping it would be multiregion out of the box. It isn`t and I can`t find a hack for it, so it`s going back to the shop.

Does anyone know of a small (14 inch) combi TV/DVD which is multiregion? The Cello was only £90 but I`ll spend a bit more to get the multiregion capabilities if necessary (thanks to the "Bargain buckets" forum most of my DVDs are not Region 2 :) ). It`s going in a small space in the bedroom so I do need a combi unit (either that or one of the new slimline PS2`s as a "DVD player" but I`d never get away with that one!)

I looked at the Alba unit Tesco are selling but when I phoned the Alba helpline to enquire they said it was Region 2 only.

Isn`t it about time the industry grew up and recognised that we now live in a global economy and stopped all this Region nonsense? (rant off)

Thanks in advance,

Derek.

Cello DVT 1402 Combi TV/DVD - anyone have a hack?

I`ve just bought a Cello 1402 combination TV/DVD from my local Co-Op (bargain at £89.99). Does anyone know how to make it multi-region? Some of these have been OK straight out of the box (see the Bargain Buckets forum) but not mine :(

Regards,

Derek.

RE: Multi-region TV/DVD Combi at Co Op! - Great price!

I`ve just bought one of these from my local Co-Op and is is *not* multi-region. The model number is DVT 1402.

I`ll stick a hack request in the appropriate forum but thought I`d better stick a little health warning in this thread!

Regards,

Derek.

RE: Cheap Rechargeable Batteries!

I picked up a charger, some AA and some AAA batteries at Tescos in Sheffield (the Millhouse store) this afternoon. They had about 10 packs of AA batteries and about 4 chargers left.

The chargers are with the torches, the battery packs are with the rest of the batteries.

Happy hunting and thanks for the original post :)

RE: New deal at Blockbusters

I`m pretty chuffed with this deal - I got Die Another Day (2-disc retail version), XXX (retail version), The Guru (rental version) and The Importance of Being Earnest (rental version but still with extras) all for £15.98.

Does anyone knows whether or not they`ll keep this going for a while - it could encourage me to become a more regular visitor to Blockbuster and to spend more money on the real high-profit stuff like the sweets and popcorn :-)

RE: Video Senders ???

Thanks KaTz. Looks like the decision now is to either bin the scronky old video for a decent one and save money on the video sender or to splash out on a more sophisticated (i.e. more inputs) video sender.

I must admit I thought you couldn`t watch DVDs through the video due to Macrovision (ditto Sky Box Office movies) though I`ve never tried.

RE: Video Senders ???

Couple of quick questions for you:

how many devices can you plug into the Thomson sender? I`d like to plug DVD, Sky, video and terrestrial in and then choose between them remotely - is this doable?

secondly, do you have to be a business to join Makro or will they let an ordinary man in the street like me join? I know that to use their website you have to give them a VAT registration, copies of invoices etc.

RE: Connecting multiple sources to multiple TVs

Thanks for the advice - that sounds like the right direction to go in (to be honest quality of signal isn`t a big issue - the extension TVs are for the kids and they`re not old enough yet for their own widescreen/stereo setup!).

The only problem I can see with the Philips suggested is that it only has two inputs - does anyone know if you can get them with more?

Connecting multiple sources to multiple TVs

I`d like to be able to watch DVD, satellite, terrestrial TV or video from any room in the house, preferably whilst also being able to change channels.

The DVD, video and Sky box all live in the lounge and I have another TV in a spare room and one in the bedroom.

I`ve seen these wireless transmitters thingys advertised but I don`t know if (a) they are any good and (b) if they have enough connectivity.

Has anyone got an elegant solution for this (preferably one which doesn`t involve rewiring the entire house!) ??

RE: star wars 1 + 2 dvd box set £16.79

Got mine this morning too. I`d ordered Starship Troopers with it and the two came together, though I got two dispatch e-mails so expected two parcels.

RE: The BigGesT bESteST DeAL iN The WholE-wIDe WorLd EvEr

I doubt they`ll do the "bookends" version (but I hope for your sake that they do) as part of the offer.

I think they could legitimately claim that that product isn`t selling enough/expected to sell enough (given that the chart must be based on something other than sales seeing as it comes out before the product is available) to make the chart.

This is based on the assumption that they regard the "bookends" version as a discrete product, which they probably do as it has a different part number (or whatever it`s called).
