INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO CHANGE REGION CODE ON DVD2000

Due to trouble with Macrovision the latest Manhattan DVD2000s have a change in software that affects the codes for region changing. Disabling Macrovision is now no longer an option. The Manhattan DVD2000 is constructed primarily for Europe and so is in Region 2 by default.

To put the machine into multi region, press the following:

OPEN - SETUP - 9 - 3 - 0 - 1 - 0 - STEP - SHUFFLE - NEXT

This will open up the machine for all regions. Note, there is no confirmation displayed after inputting the code.

If using a new Warner disc such as "The Patriot" which features Regional Coding Enhancement (so far implemented in Region 1 [USA] only), you can still put the machine into a specific region that matches the disc (e.g. Region 1 for a Region 1 disc). To do this, use the same code as above but replace the first digit (the 9) with the region code you want to put the machine in. The DVD format has 8 regions and that is why digit 9 has been assigned to multi-region.

For example:

MultiReg: OPEN - SETUP - 9 - 3 - 0 - 1 - 0 - STEP - SHUFFLE - NEXT
Region 1: OPEN - SETUP - 1 - 3 - 0 - 1 - 0 - STEP - SHUFFLE - NEXT
Region 2: OPEN - SETUP - 2 - 3 - 0 - 1 - 0 - STEP - SHUFFLE - NEXT
Region 3: OPEN - SETUP - 3 - 3 - 0 - 1 - 0 - STEP - SHUFFLE - NEXT
Region 4: OPEN - SETUP - 4 - 3 - 0 - 1 - 0 - STEP - SHUFFLE - NEXT

When reporting any errors please type the following code in as it will bring up the system status window containing software/hardware codes which will help in diagnosing any problem: OPEN - SETUP - STOP - STEP – MENU.

We are currently advertising in What Satellite and Home Cinema Choice with full page adverts.

And actually I was still answering his question which basically was - what is the Logix and should I get one?

Go ahead and buy one if you want an inferior product with no support. Buy a Manhattan or Scan otherwise.

Maybe a little advertising, but I call it advice :)

RE: Logix 3000

As I have posted elsewhere, the Logix is part of LGs clearing of its last stock. Expect the inferior CS4995 video chip (something they won`t be able to change for you) and older software (I believe, though am not 100% sure, that the Logix has not got flash memory and has ROM (read-only-memory) that cannot be upgraded by CD.

The Manhattan is in stock with the latest software and the latest hardware. I am not sure about availability of the Scan but it also has the latest software/hardware. Make your decision on price/availability/colour/front panel.

Logix (LG) are no longer taking any more stock of this DVD player and their whole initial shipment came with the inferior CS4955 video chip. I am not sure of Scan`s long-term plans but we here at Manhattan have just entered the DVD market and have many new models coming out next year: a portable unit with 8inch screen, a slimline budget deck, an integrated digital TV with DVD (for NTSC only initially), plus continuing integration with our evolving Satellite range a little further down the line.

So, depending on this, if deciding between the Manhattan and the Scan the only things to think about are the design and colour of the front panel.

Dear all,

I just wanted to clear up my position. I like Scan. In fact, about 2 months ago I spent around £800 with them on computer equipment. This is despite the fact that whenever I tried to ring them I was put on hold for half an hour and then the line would just go dead. When I finally got through it was not hard to hear why (in the background) - SCAN are doing a lot of business. And it is not hard to see why.

Ignoring the computer side of their business for the minute - the DVD2000 (Manhattan or Scan) is a quality machine. Unlike most of the Chinese crap out there, the thing actually works and does what it advertises. Where the machine has had faults Nelley and Scan (just like us) have had to make tough decisions on what to do because it really is out of our hands (and with the manufacturer in Korea). But, we do finally seem to be getting there. As many have noted, the December stock (with the new Analog Devices chip), really kicks ass.

For those interested in knowing the machine has also been branded Logix (LG), Daewoo and also Grundig (in Germany). Logix and Daewoo are no longer taking stock so I suggest strongly that you stick with either a Manhattan, a Scan or a Grundig for continued support.

Actually that is an incorrect statement. For those who honestly want to know the differences in the Manhattan/Scan abilities it is a simple chip. The initial batch of Manhattan/Scan players used the CS4955 TV encoder. The next stock coming in of both the Manhattan and Scan players use the ADV7172 TV encoder, a far superior chip. This is the element that determines the superior video performance. Otherwise the only thing distinguishing the Manhattan and Scan players are the different front panels, remotes and software (of which the Manhattan runs the latest V1.95).

For those who wish to do a test, use a copy of Region-2 Magnolia and skip to 10:50 into the film. If you have a player with the CS4955 chip you will see the white wall behind the police officer quite clearly break up into many little blocks. However, with the ADV7172 chip playback is far superior.

To get you thinking along the right lines, just think of the DVD player as three components - the DVD drive, mainboard and power supply. You could literally unwire the 3 connectors into the mainboard of a Scan player and wire it in instantly into the mainboard of another Manhattan player with no problems.

The only difference between Manhattan/Scan players with good playback and those with bad playback is that the good performance mainboards have the ADV7172 chips and the bad performance ones have the CS4955 chip. How many Scan`s and Daewoo`s have been sold with this sub-standard chip? Changing this chip is not possible - the whole mainboard has to be changed. How many mainboard`s do you expect Scan and Daewoo to be changing?

For those who want to know why they are unable to upgrade their DVD player via CDR, this is because the initial shipments used OTP ROM (that cannot be upgraded). In order to upgrade these players they first have to be fitted with a FLASH ROM but they are not pin-to-pin compatible as the PCB layout is not the same. This means alterations (i.e. soldering) have to be made first before a DVD player can be upgraded.

I would like to state though that we here at Manhattan have had stock of DVD for almost half a year now. The reason it is finally being advertised, reviewed and mentioned is because we, unlike some of our competitors, do not release sub-standard products as we like the fact that we actually DO provide some level of customer service. When you have your lines of support filled by unhappy customers with faulty products it begins to affect your ability to respond and provide an acceptable level of customer service. That is something we here at Manhattan simply will not allow.

RE: Deawoo remote hack via this hack is fake

For some reason people don`t publish the keypresses necessary to get into the service menu correctly. It is really simple and really easy, but the number one fault most people forget is to put the machine into full stop. You may notice if you press stop when watching a disc it says "Pre-Stop". If you were to press play the disc would continue on from the last point it was at. By pressing Stop again the machine will be in full "Stop" mode and now if you were to press play the disc would start from the beginning.

So, once the machine is in FULL stop mode (by pressing stop twice)press:

title
step
next

Then scroll down to the bottom of the service menu and you will see the option "Region ID" - scroll down to the bottom of the Regions (through 1, 2, 3, 4 etc) and there is an option to disable right at the end.

RE: Toshiba 3107 help please

I had a Toshiba 3107 from America which I got modified with a Techtronics mod. I found the player was pretty good but it had errors on a number of discs - The Matrix; Martha meet Frank, Daniel & Laurence and others. Every Columbia disc also has a menu glitch which leads to flickering.

It`s a good player but as a first generation unit my advice is to steer clear.
