Could somebody please tell me where the macrovision disable option in the secret menu is as stated in the review of the manhattan player on this web site. I,ve found the menu easy enough but there does,nt seem to be a disable function in there

Unfortunately, I don`t have the player any more, so I can`t check this point. However if memory serves me correctly, it was right there on the secret menu...

If you can`t find it, check that you have the same firmware as the review model.

Cheers

Wil, following on fron Dans post, also make sure you are scrolling down the whole page and thus viewing all the options that have moved off the page - this could be the issue.

Maybe this newer firmware has the Macro disable removed. It makes sense as the player was of the recent times when the likes of Scan (which is the same machine BTW) were having to remove this facility cos of possible legal issues from Macrovision.

So it looks like you cant!

INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO CHANGE REGION CODE ON DVD2000

Due to trouble with Macrovision the latest Manhattan DVD2000s have a change in software that affects the codes for region changing. Disabling Macrovision is now no longer an option. The Manhattan DVD2000 is constructed primarily for Europe and so is in Region 2 by default.

To put the machine into multi region, press the following:

OPEN - SETUP - 9 - 3 - 0 - 1 - 0 - STEP - SHUFFLE - NEXT

This will open up the machine for all regions. Note, there is no confirmation displayed after inputting the code.

If using a new Warner disc such as "The Patriot" which features Regional Coding Enhancement (so far implemented in Region 1 [USA] only), you can still put the machine into a specific region that matches the disc (e.g. Region 1 for a Region 1 disc). To do this, use the same code as above but replace the first digit (the 9) with the region code you want to put the machine in. The DVD format has 8 regions and that is why digit 9 has been assigned to multi-region.

For example:

MultiReg: OPEN - SETUP - 9 - 3 - 0 - 1 - 0 - STEP - SHUFFLE - NEXT
Region 1: OPEN - SETUP - 1 - 3 - 0 - 1 - 0 - STEP - SHUFFLE - NEXT
Region 2: OPEN - SETUP - 2 - 3 - 0 - 1 - 0 - STEP - SHUFFLE - NEXT
Region 3: OPEN - SETUP - 3 - 3 - 0 - 1 - 0 - STEP - SHUFFLE - NEXT
Region 4: OPEN - SETUP - 4 - 3 - 0 - 1 - 0 - STEP - SHUFFLE - NEXT

When reporting any errors please type the following code in as it will bring up the system status window containing software/hardware codes which will help in diagnosing any problem: OPEN - SETUP - STOP - STEP – MENU.

Ive had a call from the korean factory to stop supplying updates
that disable macro. From now on future updates for the sc-2000 will
not disable macro.Im sure alex as also had a warning as well.Macrovision
are very serious about this issue as they are paid by the major studios
to make sure it is implemented.Apparently warninggs and even possible
court action will be taken by ANY company selling macro disable
dvd players. From what i have been told its going to happen in the new year.

That`s a pity. Come January, it sounds like it will have to be a question of either long filenames for MP3 or no Macrovision:(

Though, I guess that the Macro(less) version could be installed when needed.
