RE: LG3200e - where to buy ?

Well I have an LG3200e and the firmware hack shows a Micom number of VER1.1 however the region hacks work perfectly.

Where did the 1.4 come into play?

RE: Crouching Tiger from MovieTyme

I ordered CT from Movietyme too - absolutely no idea when its going to arrive - and supposedly I had placed it before the shipping problems began! =/

I really want that film to go with my new...hopefully arriving soon..player!

RE: LG 3200e? A few questions please..

Thats great to hear Pete! :)

I have one on order from Dabs as of tonight but they have none directly in stock. This will probably sound odd but who are Big W stores? Is that Woolworths or something? If so I`ll cancel that Dabs order and pop into my town center tomorrow morning!

RE: LG 3200e? A few questions please..

Where would be the best place to buy the LG 3200e? I was thinking Techtronics but given a remote hack is usuable on this machine would that be paying more for something it can already do?

LG 3200e? A few questions please..

Hiya all,

After missing out on obtaining a Wharfy for £99 I began looking around at other players again. I`ve noticed the LG 3350e and the LG3200e and have the following questions about the latter..

1. Does anyone know if ToysR`Us is selling the LG3200e for £129.99?

2. What differences are there between the two machines?

3. Is the LG3200e region hackable via codes out of the box or should I, if decided, buy one mod-chipped from Techtronics?

4. Any other comments or feedback on the machine appreciated.

Btw..I`m trying to keep cost down - I`ve always wanted a player but its not something I`ll use all the time. When I heard about the £99 Wharfies I thought it was a good investment so if there`s anything out there to match but as close to that price mark I`m interested. The LG3350e tips a little too much towards the £200 mark for me at this time.

Thanks!

RE: LG 3350E

I`d be very tempted with this machine too (but with xmas looming money is running low at present).

Would love to hear more about this machine - good and bad.

RE: RCE - does it affect the Wharfdale 750s?

I`d swap it simply because although the region free hack works at present its on dodgy ground.

I believe the only sure fire way of surpassing any form of RCE is to have a player that lets you set it to a specific region whenever you want.

Only way I can see the film companies working around that is to code in DVD Player detection technology into their disc`s and ban certain players (but that ain`t gonna happen).

RE: RCE - does it affect the Wharfdale 750s?

Sounds like its pure pot luck on which of the 750s you will get. I`d try to return any that don`e have the region specific hack for one that does.

Nelley please could you answer these points of concern?

A friend recently purchased a Scan SC2000 and it had to be replaced with another machine. Both still had problems with `judder` at random times with differing discs. The recent high profile magazine reviews never mention this. There are also disturbing differences - they claim the manual has screenshots but my friend`s didn`t. The region hack is also different.

Are the magazines reviewing your new batch scheduled for release on 26th Oct?

Does the new batch fix the `judder`?

Does the new batch still have the option to directly specify any one region as well as just `bypass` as with the current models? If so what is the new hack as the old 1111 1 no longer works?

Lastly apologies if this should be in the Hardware forum but I`ve been advised to post questions to Nelley here.

RE: Is the scan player as bad as everyone says

A friend bought the Scan and we both loved it. It has good looks, solid build and I personally love the menu`s. The remote is the best I`ve come across on budget players too.

Unfortunately my friend had problems with his first machine: juddering during playback - and no this wasn`t NTSC>PAL conversion - he has an NTSC tv and he tried the player in every mode imaginable and on 2 other TV`s. Also both Scart sockets failed to work.

He recieved a replacement from Scan which solved the Scart problem but the judder is still there.

As he commented and I agree, the hassle of contacting them, arguing it out, sending back replacements and so forth just isn`t worth the hassle.

But then again it seems no player out there is free from flaws.

RE: My new Lecson DVD900

Does the Lecson DVD900 use a `region free` method only or is it settable to specific regions thus working around the new RCE discs?

Thanks.

RE: RCE - does it affect the Wharfdale 750s?

I would say almost definately that the 750s won`t have problem`s with the currently released RCE discs because you can set it to a single region. On bypass / region free it will probably fail much like the Scan SC 2000 but this isn`t a big problem.

However I`ve yet to see this confirmed by someone who has the machine and an RCE disc but I will be extremely surprised if it doesn`t work.

PAL 60? and a Wharfdale 750s Question too

Firstly I was wondering what Pal 60 was?

Secondly does the Wharfdale 750s feature NTSC > PAL conversion and if so does it do a good job?

RE: The deed is done - my fate is sealed

Think I am heavily swayed for the 750s now although I need to wait till the end of the month to guage the money situation so I`ll eagerly await any info on Scan`s new batch too.

Can you buy / pick up the 750s at your local Tesco store or do you need to order online and await a stock + delivery time?

Thanks.

RE: Regional Code Enhancement - What machines will work

Ah thanks for the clarification - thats some good background knowledge into how the system operates!

RE: Regional Code Enhancement - What machines will work

The new code will only affect player`s which are `region free`. Hence you set your Scan or other player into Bypass mode it won`t play the new RCE discs. Those discs do the following:

Disc: Machine are you region 1?
Machine: Yep
Disc: Machine are you region 2?
Machine Yep
Disc: Well then bugger off! :)

The disc`s trick the machine into revealing its true setting by asking if its both regions. Well you get the point. =d

Anyway if your player supports unlimited region setting (like the Scan and so I`ve been told the Wharfdale) then you are safe - just set your player to Region 1 and not Bypass or region free and the disc will run.

RE: The deed is done - my fate is sealed

AlteredReality am I correct in understanding that the 750s is reportedly not as good picture wise as its predecessor despite being the newer player?

Wharfdale or Scan SC2000?

I`m weighing up the differences between the new Wharfdale 750s and the Scan SC2000. A friend recently bought the Scan player but has experienced `judders` on various DVD`s which was not resolvable. Both scart socket`s also weren`t functioning (on 3 different televisions). However I really liked the look of this player, its build, remote and on screen functions and I`m wondering if his experience was indicative of other users. I`m also curious to see if the new batch on 29th Oct will solve anything.

On the other hand I`ve been reading some favourable reviews of the new Wharfdale 750s which solve`s its younger brother`s problems regarding noise, loading times etc. There`s also the added benefit of being able to take it back to a local Tesco`s should something go wrong.

Has anyone had experience of both player`s? The on screen menu`s for the Scan player were highly graphical - are the Wharfdale`s at all similar or more simplistic? Has the `weak` tray of the Wharfdale been upgraded to provide the more solid feel of the Scan? Has the remote been upgraded? And finally is the Wharfdale 750s infinately changable between Region free and specific region modes?

Thanks in advance.
