RE: LOST - The Complete first season dvd set - Region 1

I ordered my copy from DVDImport on the 3rd (last Saturday). My payment has been authorised and the money taken from my account but the order status is still `Pending` and hasnt changed at all yet. Is that normal?

Home Cinema System (Upgrade)

I am looking to upgrade my surround system.

I currently have the Creative Inspire 5500`s

They have served me very well, and worked perfectly for both my DVD player and the X-BOX, but I am now wanting something a little more powerful/better quality.

I`ve got my eye on the Acoustic Solutions DS1133`s as they support both AC-3 and DTS, have all the inputs I require and seem fairly cheap.

The thing is I cant find much information in the way of reviews on this set. Are these a worthy upgrade from the Creative Inspire 5500`s?

Thanks!

Unfortunately there are no options on my player regarding NTSC/PAL output which is pretty annoying :(

The SD-33VB is a DVD/Video combi which is probably why your not familiar with it, but the DVD player is the SD-330E put into a combi unit im told.

I dont know if this player had any options regarding NTSC output? I wonder if I could update the DVD players firmware with one made for the 330E?

Problem With Region 1 DVD

I have the Toshiba SD-33VB multi region, and it plays region 2 disks perfectly.

I have just got the region 1 copy of "Man on Fire" and it plays without problems but the picture seems to stutter on panning shots, its not smooth at all.

I have tried the disk on an older player which I have in the house and on my PC and it works perfectly without any stutter on panning shots.

I`m assuming my player is not liking the difference in framerate between NTSC and PAL?

Is there anything I can do?

Thanks...

RE: Xbox Risks On 32" Widescreen?

Thanks for the help everyone :)

RE: Xbox Risks On 32" Widescreen?

I think its something to do with the bright non moving images on the HUD on games that can cause an inprint on the screen isnt it?

Xbox Risks On 32" Widescreen?

I am considering purchasing a Panasonic 32" widescreen but I am concerned about the using an Xbox console on the television, as I hear there are risks invloved with certain televisions.

TV Here - http://www.comet.co.uk/comet/html/cache/453_115010.html

Can anyone explain this issue to me in more detail?

Thanks

RE: Please Help Me With Scarts!

Yep, will do :D

Only reason im using the cheapy one atm is because I had no others spare.

RE: Please Help Me With Scarts!

Thanks a lot for all the input, Ive got my £30 refund back for the Monster Scart Adaptor and purchased the £10 switch box from argos which gives me perfect RGB quality on all my devices.

Even with this scart switcher the TV sound goes so quiete on all my devices running through it so I have to turn the TV volume right upto the top to just hear it. Im not using a particularly good scart cable from the switch box to the TV though so that maybe why. Anyway its not much of a problem as ive connected my speaker system to the scart box which is better quality than the TV sound anyway.

Cheers for the link splintercell :)

RE: Please Help Me With Scarts!

Thanks for the input. I shall return the Monster Video SCART Multi-Adaptor and buy that switchable one. That one actually cost me £30 too!

I still need to have my DVD/Video combi through the Freeview box if I want to be able to record digital channels but then I have the problem with DVD Playback. Can anyone please give me some input on this? It seems that transparent purple bars come accross the screen horizontally depending on what is displayed on the picture. Is this the effects of macrovision? If so is there anything I can do? My combi is the Toshiba SD-33VB.

Cheers.

Please Help Me With Scarts!

Hello, I`m having problems setting all my hardware up and would appreciate some help.

I have 1 RGB scart socket on the rear of my TV and 3 devices that I would like to use the RGB signal on.

These are...

DVD/VHS Combo Player
Freeview Digital Receiver
Xbox Console

I purchased the Monster Video SCART Multi-Adaptor which splits the RGB socket into 3. I expected it to be as simple as plug my 3 scart sockets in and everything would be ready to go but doing this has caused some problems.

If I plug the Xbox in the sound on all the devices goes so quiete I have to turn the volume up to the max just to hear the sound at all. It also makes the picture on the DVD player darker. With just the DVD player and digital receiver plugged in the sound is fine but the image on the DVD player is darker once again.

Before trying the Monster Video SCART Multi-Adaptor I had the DVD player going through the second scart on the digital reciever and this seemed fine when playing videos but when playing DVD`s purple coloured bars would come accross the screen on certain scenes. Im assuming this is because of macrovision? Strange though as it says in the manual for the digital receiver that you can connect a DVD player through it.

The only compromise ive managed to come to at the moment is the DVD player and Freeview box plugged into the Monster Video SCART Multi-Adaptor and the Xbox through the secondary scart on the Freeview box. There is the brightness problem on DVD`s still but it can be overcome by turning the TV settings up when playing DVD`s. This is the only way I can get all 3 devices on RGB but surely there must be a better way?

RE: Toshiba SD330E Multi-region DVD Player.. some questions

The little jump your experiencing will most likely be the layer change, which is quite normal and usually located about half way through the film.

RE: DVD Combi Players - any hacks for models and which to look out for

Ive just ordered the Toshiba SD33VB combo from www.cdwow.com

£179.99 and region free 8)

DVD/Video Combo Help

Im looking for a fairly decent DVD/Video combo player and would appreciate it if someone could give me some input/recommendations.

These are a few ive found so far...

JVC HR-XV2EK - £199.89
SONY SLVD950GS - £229.95
JVC HR-XVS20EK - £229.95
GRUNDIG GR-1000 - £169.99
MATSUI VDVD 500 - £129.99

The only real requirements I have are decent dolby digital 5.1 capability, by either coaxal or optical and high quality dvd playback.

Thanks for any help.

RE: Samsung DVD-S224 Problem

Yeh, ive noticed that if I leave a DVD in the player and turn it off and on the subtitles will be turned on. Although that doesnt bother me in the slightest, its the damn skipping at certain scene changes >:(

RE: Samsung DVD-S224 Problem

Very strange indeed. If there is a firmware update how do you go about installing it? I asume you burn it you a CDRW and then put it in the player?

Samsung DVD-S224 Problem

I have a probem with this player and some dvd`s.

Recently I watched The Two Towers on this player and every now and again it will pause for a split second on scene changes (not the layer change). Its most noticable when there is a lot of sound or music playing because it cuts out momenterily and its quite annoying. Also when it does do it, if i rewind and play the last few second again it does not repeat the pause, it only seems to be when its been playing the dvd continuosly.

Anyone know why this could be? I know its not the DVD because it does the same on some of the others ive got but not quite as bad, and its only at the change of a scene which is very strange.

Maybe I should use a DVD cleaning disk on the player?

Samsung DVD-S224 Problem

Lo all, ive noticed a very strange problem when using the RGB signal with this player. When there is a lot of green on the screen near the top it appeares much brighter than normal and it seems to flood into things things thats shouldnt be green.

Its hard to explain ive never seen anything like it before but the problem seems to disappear when using S-Video signal instead but id prefere to use RGB as the quality is much better.

Ive tried using a different player on my TV which is a Bush Widescreen and the problem no longer exists when using RGB even with the same scart lead.

Could there be something wrong with my player?
