Problem With Region 1 DVD

Meusa (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Friday, 29th October 2004, 16:33

I have the Toshiba SD-33VB multi region, and it plays region 2 disks perfectly.

I have just got the region 1 copy of "Man on Fire" and it plays without problems but the picture seems to stutter on panning shots, its not smooth at all.

I have tried the disk on an older player which I have in the house and on my PC and it works perfectly without any stutter on panning shots.

I`m assuming my player is not liking the difference in framerate between NTSC and PAL?

Is there anything I can do?

Thanks...

As far as I know Toshiba players will only output in pure NTSC and PAL.I am not familiar with the model you mention, but it may be different.Go into the picture set up menu and see if there is an option to change NTSC to pure NTSC.You may be converting it to PAL 50 or PAL 60.This would account for blurring.Make sure its output is set to RGB

Unfortunately there are no options on my player regarding NTSC/PAL output which is pretty annoying :(

The SD-33VB is a DVD/Video combi which is probably why your not familiar with it, but the DVD player is the SD-330E put into a combi unit im told.

I dont know if this player had any options regarding NTSC output? I wonder if I could update the DVD players firmware with one made for the 330E?

Is it just "Man On Fire" with problems,or all NTSC discs?

Is it set permanently to Auto then? A playback picture may be distorted when detecting a signal change between PAL and NTSC on the disc. These combi`s can be buggers!!

Disregard. I re-read your original post more carefully. :/
